Auriemma unloads on Summitt

'Pat doesn't have courage to say it publicly'

Although women's basketball season ended two weeks ago, it was open season on Pat Summitt and Tennessee Tuesday.

Connecticut women's coach Geno Auriemma took aim and fired.

At a press conference in Storrs, Conn., to wrap up the Huskies' season, Auriemma unleashed some lingering resentment toward the Lady Vols basketball coach over Tennessee's decision last spring to end the regular-season series between the two schools.

The spark that reignited Auriemma was a question about Summitt always saying, "Geno knows" when asked why UT ended the series.

"Pat knows,'' he said. "I don't have to say anything. Pat knows. She knows why we're not playing. There's nothing for me to say. I'm not the one that made the decision not to play. So she should just tell you why instead of saying, 'Geno knows.' I do know. I already told you. She accused us of cheating at recruiting. She doesn't have the courage to say it publicly. So yeah, Geno does know. And I've said it."

ESPN reported last month that Tennessee raised a complaint with the SEC office over an ESPN private tour the Huskies basketball office helped arrange in October 2005 for then-top recruit Maya Moore and her mother, Kathryn. Two sources said the tour amounted to a secondary rules violation.

" 'Geno knows,' " Auriemma said, "There's a lot of things I know about a lot of people. That doesn't mean I cancel the series. This is the same person who said if the Duke fans didn't treat her players right, she was going to cancel that series."

The reference was to Summitt threatening to end UT's series with Duke if the "Cameron Crazies" student section persisted this season with waving plastic bags and chanting "Wal-Mart" at Lady Vol Alexis Hornbuckle in reference to her being arrested as a high school senior on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge at a Wal-Mart in West Virginia. The chants continued when the two teams played at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Jan. 28. The series continues as well.

"So if people don't stop misbehaving, they're only going to play regular-season scheduled conference games,'' Auriemma said. "Unless that starts to bug them. So the bottom line is it's not going to change. Don't get me wrong. It's not going to change."

Auriemma said the regular-season series between Tennessee and Connecticut will not be revived.

"It would have to be eight games here, one in Nashville and one in Memphis; that would be my proposal to them,'' he said, smiling. "That's the only way I would do it."

When asked about the possibility of playing UT at the Maggie Dixon Classic in New York City, Auriemma said, "If you're not going to play here or there, you're not going to play them at Madison Square Garden in a charity event that's supposed to help a good cause. How could they be involved with that? That would be something that's good for the game."

While his comments indicate otherwise, Auriemma said the situation "doesn't irk me."

"With some people that's just their style,'' he said. "They're passive-aggressive. They always want to have somebody to blame for what's going on."

When reached for comment Tuesday night, Summitt said "It's absolutely not worth a comment."

What a total JERK!!!!! Geno, you screwed up in the semifinals and Pat showed you how to coach. Your level of resentment is at an all time high as you had already counted on the 08 championship. Instead it was LADY VOLS # 8 in o8!!! You cheat, you got caught, Why should Pat put up with any crap from you? You are so resentful that Pat is "good for the game." You, on the other hand stink!!

Funny how win you actually win championships and not Eastern Division titles that other coached don't particularly like you as much.

Geno Knows!!!!!!! CHEATER.. Cheat to outrecruit your arch rival. You had your chance to continue the series in the national championship Geno. I hope this is the start of the maya moore curse for all of uconns sports.

Sounds to me as if Geno has a little recruiter's (buyer's) remorse with Maya Moore. What Geno knows is this: They may win a national championship again, but UCONN will never be the same (year after year dominant) without playing the Lady Vols every year. That is what "GENO KNOWS" !

Posted by yemmusdarb on April 22, 2008 at 11:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Let's see, we just won our 8th national championship and 2nd in a row. We cancelled the series with UCONN because they were busted cheating. And yet we want to listen to this loud mouth??? Listen Geno, get on our level and maybe we'll talk. You got drilled by Stanford and we drilled them 2 days later. So, what's left to say? Pat won't comment because she's classy.

Geno is a loud-mouthed Yankee. UConn has been riding UT's coat tails in women's basketball since they hired him. He'll always be 2nd best and he knows it. That's why he throws temper tantrums and Pat just sits back in her office and looks across the hallway at her 8 national championship trophies and laughs.

To Hell with Geno and UConn.

as much as i detest the man, he has a couple of valid points. i disagree with canceling the series. i disagreed with pat's remarks about the duke situation. in my opinion, the best way to put someone in their place is kick their tail on the court, not take your ball and go home, which is the impression i get from this deal.

With that kind of venom and perversion of the truth, Geno & John Adams should be good friends.

bhjohnso:

Ok, I agree about Duke. That was kind of whimpy to say "leave our players alone". We can't control what a crowd does. But with UConn, you have to realize when you're recruiting the same kids and the other team gets them because they aren't playing by the rules and you are... it leaves a sour taste in your mouth. Why play those same kids against the girls you actually signed? Why give the other program the satisfaction? UT created UConn. Without them having played us for so many years, they'd be nothing. So we didn't take our ball and go home with it. We're more like the big brother leaving the game to let the smaller kids play. If they want to travel and walk and not play by the rules, we --- the big brother --- simply walk off and let them play that way. We've got bigger and better things to do.

Dear Coach:

You own this guy! We put him on the map......We gave him access to the highest echelon in women's basketball........He got careless.......And he got caught.........To use ESPN because it is in Connecticut was beyond cheating. And it wasn't minor as he likes to say. What he wasn't saying out loud to the recruit was that he had ultimate influence with the premier sports television network on the world, and it was 60 miles from his campus. For him to say it wasn't major is ridiculous. What is ridiculous is not to know how many recruits have taken that little tour before.........When that litle tidbit comes out, then we will start looking at the whole truth. He doesn't like it that while, yes, he helped activate the television market on the eastern seaboard; and along with us brought the women's game to the highest visibiity it had ever known, he forgot his manners. Hmmm....there are people in this country who think that how you treat people is secondary to winning the prize. Those of us in the collective Tennessee family know otherwise. You don't have to be born in Tennessee to be a Volunteer. But you do have to follow a few basic rules to be one of us. Thanks for standing up for what it means to be a Vol. I'm not saying you should never play him again. Things can change, and forgiveness is one of our attributes as well. But you held him accountable. And the greatest thing is that the eastern press will hound him from now on. Way to go. We are so proud of you, and grateful we get to watch you and your teams every year do the right things.....and yes, graduate........Take care.

We don't need Geno's recruits anyway.....Pat is doing just fine without UCONN recruits! He is nothing but a jerk. All you have to do is watch him in a game and watch Pat in a game.............GENO, JERK WITH NO CLASS...........PAT SUMMITT, CLASS ACT!
I totally admire Pat for standing up for her girls, especially with the Duke situation. Sometimes people (Geno) forget these players are still kids and it just wasn't right for the Duke fans to do what they did to Alexis. I work with young people too and Pat is one hundred percent committed to standing by her girls and that is the way its gotta be if you are gonna have impact on young adults. It may be petty in some eyes, but when a 22 year old is having her past thrown in her face on National TV, it is a big deal in her eyes. I gurantee Pat Summitt made a bigger impact on Alexis Hornbuckle's life by that one Duke statement than could ever be imagined!!!!
PAT SUMMITT FOR PRESIDENT!! LOL.....behind you all the way.

I wish Summit hadn't made threatened to cancel the Duke series due to what the Cameron Crazies may/may not do; however, I'm all for her decision to cut UConn--assuming that the decision was due to some shady recruiting.

As for Geno, I don't know him. Nonetheless, from one man to another: Geno, go coach a men's team somewhere!

Pat won again, By winning a National Title she caused Geno to show what a jerk he is and will always be! She beat him again when she beat Stanford, because Geno's offensive minded coaching made Stanford look unbeatable, that is until they ran up against a real Coach. Pat he needs you more than you need him. Pat stay the course!!!

I agree with Pats comments about Duke. My first reaction was that of most people, making a big deal about the Cameron Crazies will only make it worse....

But when I thought about it more, I believe there needs to be a line drawn in the sand that says...enough is enough....Personal attacks at someone should be that limit...

Its one thing to chant,"air ball", "over-rated", etc. etc. Its another to berate a COLLEGE athlete....not a pro, doing it for money.....a person representing a school....

why stop at college, lets get down to high school and grade school and have another teams boosters cheer about a personal mistake made by a star player on the team.....attack the character, morals, religion, race, gender, etc. etc.
Anything is fair game right......its all in fun.....

Congrats Pat for standing up for whats right....Not many coaches would have the guts to confront it........it may not change, but it was still the right thing to do

Folks, UCONN did not commit any violations. It was Summit's prerogative to cancel the series. However, she did it based on innuendo and lack of evidence. Because of this garbage, UCONN’s reputation was questioned. This was wrong.

You can call Geno whatever you want but if another school dragged Summitt and her Volunteers through the mud with junk accusations, you would be calling for a congressional hearing.

I'm not sure we all know everything involved in the canceling of the series with UCONN. If Pat thought the cheating was bad enough, I can understand why she would not want to continue the series as long as Maya Moore is there. I bet she would have reconsidered the series (before today) after Maya was gone. As far as threatening Duke, we definitely can't make the fans act any better but Pat can decide not to put her kids in that situation. I have no problem with her protecting her players. These players are part of her family for life and as a parent she can choose who her kid's friends are! She has earned that right. She has shown through the past many years that she will do anything that helps promote the womens game. If she felt canceling the series with UCONN was needed, I will fully support her stance knowing how she feels about the women's game. She gave Candace Parker the green light to dunk even though that is not something she would typically allow but since it's good for the women's game (it brings attention) she allowed it. Pat has earned the right for me to accept her stance without question.

WOW!

Does anyone not think it is odd for Pat Summit to act the way she acted?

I believe ESPN ran a special recently about the real reason: certain programs support (and go as far as promote) certain alternative lifestyles; and that gets used in recruiting. ESPN hit the nail on the head, for once. Somehow this relates, but I cannot put a finger on it.

Ok, LadyVolsEighTimes... let me help you understand. "Funny how win you actually win championships and not Eastern Division titles that other coached don't particularly like you as much." Who won the Eastern Division title this year? Coach Fulmer did, in football, and the Fulmer haters, like Workin... here, takes every opportunity to hurl insults at him. What he was trying to say, was, that if CPF won a (another) National Championship, then the other coaches that he plays against would not like him, as Geno doesn't like Pat. It was a backhanded slap at CPF on a Womens Basketball article, which I though was inappropriate as well as written on a 4th grade level, which is beside the point. Do you understand now? I would like to get back to talking about how Geno the crybaby is whining about Coach Summit taking his cheese in the final four.

What really kills me is the fact that UCONN (and every ESPN article) keeps pointing to the fact that Tennessee turned UCONN in for ESPNgate.

First of all, as Summit stated, it her obligation to report it to the SEC, what they do with it from there, is there business. Second, i read a couple reports that said UT was not the only school to turn UCONN in. I know for sure that Georgia was one of them. How do we know that UNC, DUKE, Georgia Tech, or some other ACC school did not turn them in to their conference only to have the conference not make the call to the NCAA because the SEC had already taken action?

Why is it that no one ever addresses *the* issue. Which is that Pat was and is being mealy-mouthed about this. Someone "cheats" - you play the game, beat them, make them have to shake hands with you and smile and say good game. All the while knowing they're writhing inside. A competitor doesn't take the ball and go home in a huff.

And didn't the rules about recruiting change because of the way Pat went after a certain recruit several years ago?

Posted by VOLS85 on April 23, 2008 at 1:38 a.m. (Suggest removal)

If i do recall, Sportscenter made a comment on the situation denoting that they organized this recruiting situation...

Pat Summitt has to answer to no one, not least of which Geno Auriemma. She is a legend in the history of college basketball. The fact that he made these comments makes him look ridiculous. The part that irked me the most was:

"How could they be involved with that? That would be something that's good for the game."

Pat Summitt is the epitomy of what is good for the game of basketball. She requires her players to be the most responsible students and athletes the game has to offer. She is nothing but a class act. I'm proud that she did not dignify this man with a response. Thank you Pat, you're an awesome representative of our University.

By the way Northie, I think our back to back national championships, 8 overall, and the winningest coach ever speaks for itself...go back to UCONN...we don't like losers here

Posted by BigOrangeVol on April 23, 2008 at 1:39 a.m. (Suggest removal)

...Auriemma declined to speak with ESPN about the cancellation of the series or his relationship with Summitt saying, "anything to do with her I want nothing to do with it."

That would among many other things include being the winingest basketball coach at any level, having class, integrity, maturity, courtesy, respect and 8 National Championships.

...In a reportedly profanity-laced tirade, Geno called UConn’s women’s fans “the most unbelievably spoiled fans on the face of the earth. They’re the worst. You give them a close game and they sit there and give you the old Tiger Woods’ golf clap. I hope we lose the next 10 games. That will give them something to bitc* about.”

The whole country knows what a spoiled insecure pansy and little yapping Chihuahua this stooge is. Why give him ink?

...FROM THE NCAA: Despite recent media reports to the contrary, the NCAA has not ruled on a potential secondary violation involving University of Connecticut freshman Maya Moore. The university has acknowledged that a member of the coaching staff impermissibly arranged for Moore to be granted a tour of ESPN studios and that such an arrangement is not available to the general public.

Let’s not close the book on this one just yet; there may very well be more to come.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Pat Summitt doesn't have to give anybody a reason for opting out of this series. The Lady Vols consistently play the toughest schedule in America so not having UConn on their slate is no big deal. Obviously, UConn feels they need the game more than Tennessee does. As for Gino, he's a punk. When you start putting rings on the other hand, then you can talk smack. Call me when you get to 900 wins or 100 NCAA tournament wins. Until then, SHUT IT!

Geno, you and the UCAN'T fans need to realize that games come and go. We just let yours go. I hated that game because it gave Geno a national audience because he was playing us. Now, he has to earn his spotlight.

The Lady Vols led the nation in per game attendance at almost 16,000. Most of the travel games that we played established season high attendance figures for that team. The Lady Vols pulled those fans into those gyms.

The Lady Vols are "America's Team." Look where their recruits come from. Why do they travel from Chicago, NYC, CA, TX, IN, FL, WA, VA, OH, etc??? They want to play for Coach Pat Summitt and the Orange Nation. They become a part of an extended family.

Pat will protect them at all costs which might include cancelling a series, ie, DUKE. It is not about Pat. It is about her protecting and sheltering if need be, those players who have joined the Lady Vol family.

In the South, Pat and many of the rest of us were raised by a simple principle. If you can't say something good about a person, then you don't say anything. We call it "good manners."

We love you, Pat.

May main concern is that Geno does not run out of hair gel. Or special guided tours of ESPN for recruits.

Probably bothers him watching the Lady Vols hoist the Grail.

northie-in the end, there will be some sort of sanction, whether internal or external, against UCONN. It may be an inconsequential type of sancion even. But the fact remains.....

Pat Summitt-Class Act in every facet of life
Geno Auriemma-Dont know about all of his life, but his basketball and media facet is not class. Only UCONN fans think he is classy.

Geno looks like a deer in headlights nowadays, knowing his career has peaked, he doesnt know how to make the next move.

Coach Pat Summitt and the Lady Volunteers!
A Dynasty unlike any other.

The responses of the coaches on this one subject really sums up both coaches and both programs if you think about it. Geno's comments are all over the place. He unloads publicly his personal attacks on Pat in the media. His "terms" for reviving the series (that he claims doesn't want to revivce). It "doesn't irk" him, but the report is clear that he went all Krakatoa on this subject.

Pat simply says, "It's absolutely not worth a comment."

Geno is all talk. Sound and fury signifying nothing. (Hey, there's a favorite SportsCenter phrase for ya!) Maybe he could sit in with Don Imus.

Pat told Geno how she felt about it, took ACTION and dropped the series, and then refused to comment on it any further-being smarter than to be drawn into the trough to roll with the pig.

Geno can't stand that Pat just one-upped him. Again. With back to back national titles. Again. Lord willing, victory #1000 is just around the corner for Pat. More attention he won't be getting. And there's not a thing in the world he can do about it other than rant. I believe that his true colors are truly showing and that folks (especially young recruits) will see him for what he is.

The more he talks, the smarter Pat looks for having dumped him and the series. Keep talking Geno. Good riddance.

It's 8

I agree with most of the above comments about Geno, but still don't agree with cancelling the series, anymore than I agree with boycotting the Olympics. It's good to get some regular season matchups between the top teams.

I agree with Coach Summitt, this doesn't deserve a response. I admire her for not taking part in this sad saga.

Fact is both UCONN and Lady Vols did very well last year without playing each other. UCONN was ranked number 1 most of the season and they both made it to the Final Four. Womens basketball did not suffer and continued to grow.

The Lady Vols won the big one and took home #8. With UCONNs' talented players they will probably take home a national championship in the next year or so. So why does womens basketball and the young women who love to play it so much deserve this kind of media enhanced crap ?

The series is over, get over it and move on. And as always, may the best team take home the trophy. No excuses, no whinning, no he said-she said just basketball ! The sport deserves better than this........Lady Vol fans should be better and bigger than this. Lets show some of Coach Summitts' class.

Here's to the Lady Vol dynasty, may it continue !

Man, talk about whining!

Kind of makes sense though. The Vols lost all 5 starters and Geno has all-world Moore. Why not start making waves now because his team will be favored for the next few years. If they win, it kind of gives him vindication (at least in his twisted mind).

I am a Tennessee fan, always have been and always will be BUT.....I think Pat is in the wrong on this one. Now do I think Geno is a jerk yes, do I care for him NO but Pat cancelled what is the best rivalry in womens basketball because of dirty recruiting, someting the NCAA investigated and didn't find anything, to me thats being a baby. Same goes for the DUke incident. College athletes and pro athletes are about the same when it comes to their private lives, if you do it you will be exposed. Thats why the high profile HS kids need t think before they act. I think the Duke kids are the nuttiest in the world and its great for both their men's and women's programs, but what Pat said is childish. Basically from I read she said if you don't play by my rules then I'll just take my ball and go home. Thats childish!

Now I think Pat is the best coach in the business but I think she has a hard time dealing with the fact that some programs are cathcing up to hers and not every little girl in America wants to play for her, they probably couldn't have been said 20 years ago.

I hate that the series is over, I usually don't watch women's basketball as much as I do men's but that was always a fun game to watch. It will be sorely missed....GO VOLS!

The only way Geno can get on the court and stand a chance of beating UT is to fill his cupboard with all americans, we all know he cannot outcoach Pat. So I guess that is why he cheats.

I wouldn't be surprised if Geno made a personal accusation about Pat to a recruit recently or in the past years.Kind of like a race card, but not racial. Maybe planting a seed in recruits head about the possibilty of the "L" word. I think it runs much deeper than a trip to ESPN. And I think it runs far beyond Maya Moore. You gotta know that coaches in high level sports do illegal things. But when it becomes personal then that is another matter. If that is the case then Pat is right in not talking about it for it would open up a big can of worms in womens athletics.

Superk, I have thought all along that this is what has been behind this. I think Geno used the 'L' word against Pat with some recuit and she found out and dropped the series for that reason. I got no evidence, but thqat is just the feeling I have had. I just don't think a secondary recruiting violation would have made her take this step when building the women's game has been what she has always been about.

Hey Geno,

The all time winningest coach in the history of college basketball has the right to cancel anything for any reason! Her 947 - 180 overall record allows her to do pretty much anything she wants. Too bad your time at UConn hasnt been anywhere near her. You have no right to say ANYTHING about Pat Summitt. Go back to having affairs with your players. You were much nicer back then.

I agree that there has to be more to the cancelled UConn series than just taking a recruit to visit Big Ten headquarters...er I mean ESPN. Several years ago I remember watching Geno pat his players on the fanny as they went on court. I assume he got the message on how inapproppriate that was as I have not seen him do that lately. He seems to have to told what is approppriate and what is inapproppriate. He must not be able to figure those things out on his own. Arrogant jerk!!!!

Hello folks; if you hit 'return' twice in your typing, you get a paragraph.....JSE IT!~!!!!

Okay, to the topic;

-yes, UCONN needs UT more than UT needs UCONN;
-yes, Pat screwed up with the Duke deal. That should have been between the AD's of the two schools, and not a 'if or else'.
-yes, Pat comes off as passive-aggressive, but so do many southern women. It's pretty much a matter of style.

What gets me is this: Geno brain-f#rted against Stanford, left Wiggins all alone in the 2nd half. Geno had already beaten Stanford once. UT, learning and adapting, sold out on all-pressure defense. We had good refs, which is key, and we cold lock them down.

So, being more 'aggressive', my question to Geno: 'hey, stud, you let some west coach chick out-coach you; where is your manhood now???'

Think that'd fly in a press conference??

As I said before, the complaints against UCONN were dreamed up by TN.

BTW, besides the way we won the NC (great defense), the other thing special was to be able to give a little payback for season losses.

We took LSU 2 straight in key games, and beat Stanford when it counted most.

Pretty special way to finish a season. The only missing piece was Rutgers, would have liked to kick that bunch right out of the gym.

Stringer pissed me off with her comments, as if Summitt or the UT players had ANY thing to do with clock. Total crap. I could have respected her if she'd just said 'those frigging clock operators hosed us'.

it's really presumptuous of either you or I to make assumptions as to the level of the recruiting issues. I've heard 'reumors' of the involvement of ex-Uconn players such as Diana T, and Iv'e heard some very, umm, unflattering things that really don't help the image of women's basketball.

My point is that we really do NOT know the facts involved.

And, trust me, UConn's rep isn't hurt. No one thinks more highly of UConn than a UT fan. Pretty sad, huh??

If it cheers you any, I think you'll win the NC next year, and mabye the year after.

I always knew Auriemma was a crybaby and a fool, and now he's opened his mouth and erased all doubt. He got turned in for a violation, and he just can't stand it. He's three national championships behind Summitt, and he can't stand it. He accused Pat of being "passive-agressive." It's called class, Geno, something you've obviously never heard of. Come on, if you can't win the NC consistently when you're seeded in the Hartford division EVERY SINGLE YEAR, you've got issues anyway. Sorry, but Geno Auriemma, no matter how hard he tries, will NEVER measure up to the class and success of Pat Summitt.

1st..I stick to my comments earlier. Geno has ABSOLUTELY no love, respect, or anything else good for that matter for the people of Tennesse (and maybe even the south for that matter). He looks down on us and thinks we're trash. Like I said, it goes far beyond basketball. Hell, I can take some old Steve Spurrier ribbing..that's all in fun. But what Geno does is out of plain hatered of us. THAT'S WHY I could care less what happens to Geno...if he died today, I would still sleep easy tonight.

As for Northie, if I'm 12, then that makes you 8. I have no doubt I could buy and sell your sorry azz pal. You're probably some under paid cab driver, and all you have to cling to is UCONN womens basketball. I would feel sorry for you, but I'm sure the reason you're a failure is your on fault. I think that the recruiting was definitely an issue with Pat. However, I also think the fact that Geno doesn't share his plays with other coaches is the biggest reason why this series was cancelled. He gets tips from other coaches who are willing to share and promote the game, but everything he has come up with is top secret. So, I think this year the real person who promotes the game and doesn't cheat was the ultimate winner.

Geno should consider himself lucky. When Geno says Pat Summit is a liar and a cheat, the rest of world says, "Yeah, yeah. Geno's just spouting off steam again, like he always does." But if Pat Summit, a woman--no, a COACH!--that is held in the highest esteem in all of college basketball, men's and women's, were to come out and say "Geno is a liar and a cheat," everyone would think, "It must be true, if Pat is saying it. She's way above reproach." Consequently, the NCAA would be all OVER the UConn Athletic Department, looking for uncrossed Ts and undotted Is, ready to level heavy fines and take away scholarships at the slightest deviation from NCAA rules and guidelines.

In the end, Geno would end up coaching at some Girls Club in Alaska or something, assuming anyone would let such a slimeball coach their daughter at all. More likely, he'd be given the key to the equipment closet and allowed to roll the ball racks out onto the court (under strict supervision, of course) for open gym or team practices.

Hey, Geno! I've got some gray, ill-fitting sweats pants and an old, beat up Dodgers cap you could borrow for you new job. Maybe some Lady Vol fan would give you one of their many well-worn "Lady Vols National Champions" t-shirts to wear, too.

He can't even compare with Pat, in coaching or class. HaHa!! What amuses me, and I think is the real source of his anger, is that he will never be as important to his sport or any other than Pat's pinky nail on her left hand. He is OWNED by a woman, in a womens sport. Ouch. Could Geno even coach a mens team? Some of those coaches would chew him up and spit him out so fast he would have an aneurism before conference play started. Oh, and UCONN fans, don't you think your coach should be thanking Pat Summit. If not for her, he'd be making about 11 grand a year, and possibly all the free haterade he could drink.

Geno is just a ball coach. He is a damn good recruiter, he is a tough competitor. He's kicked our butts more than a few times in games.

So, he has a certain standing from which he can back up his say.

I hate to say this, but the Huskies will be odds-on NC favorites for the next couple of years, IMHO. We just lost all five starters, and have a LOT to overcome just to compete.

Ashley is taking her frustrations out on me...that's cool. Next time though, try not to mask your own life (fat butt, smell like hot rotten bologna-the irony here is she likes hot rotten bologna, watching Liftime Network, etc.) by trying to pass it off on me.

Does anyone else think ESPN gave the special tour to the recruit to give themselves something to talk about? Couldn't hurt the network to get a bit more drama out there, right? Heck, all of ESPN picked everyone but the Lady Vols to win the championship - now all the ESPN analysts are probably thinking "lets see, we gave Geno's recruit an illegal tour, we made more drama than is necessary over why Tennessee and UConn don't play their famous home and away series this year, and we all picked UConn to win the championship... but it turns out that we were probably wrong to give that girl the tour, Geno has resorted to whining about the situation of not playing the Lady Vols, and Tennessee won their 8th championship of the year - maybe we should stop being bias towards the new england teams (Red Sox, UConn, etc.)"

This forum is for Vol losers and fanatics who do nothing but cling to Summitt's coat tails. You see nothing wrong with what she did and chastise the people who disgree with her. You're close-minded and ignorant.

Enjoy #8...

The bottom line in all of this is that the tourney was set up by the powers-that-be and ESPN for an epic grudge match battle of historic proportions between Good (UT) and Evil (UConn). As soon as the bracket came out that was the focus. Pat and the Lady Vols took care of their business and did their part to have the match-up that ESPN was drooling over, unfortuantely, their favorite son, Geno, couldn't coach his way to it.

If I was a psychology major I would say that Geno needs to look in the mirror to address some of his anger issues. :)

Hey Jello Ornery Enema, why don't you emulate "Harve Pauley" and tell us "The Rest of The Story." Anyone with an iota of intelligence can sense that the full story has not emerged...yet.
We don't want rumors or innuendos...just the facts maam..er, er, sir(?)

Pat can't keep Duke fans from being morons, nor can she keep Geno from cheating. What I think she tried to do in each case was to encourage people to have the kind of class that she and her teams have always displayed. Unfortunately, no one else is in Pat's league, so they don't get it. But it sure would be nice if those fans did show more class, and if Geno realized his program is forever tarnished due to his actions. No way Pat would ever knowingly cheat to get a player. No way she will ever have to. The best want to play for the best.

Ashley-
Watch out or Ms. Workin may type some more "LOL!!!!!!'s" at you. Oh the horror of the multiple exclamation points.

But keep in mind the old tip:
A wise man once said,
"Never argue with a fool,
because from a distance,
you can't tell who is who."

Geno sounds like a big Yankee crybaby. The more he talks, the more it is obvious he's guilty of something. (envious also)
Pat is such a class act, she would never stoop to his level.
Why are there Uconn fans posting on this website?
Go post on your own school's site!

The same could be said about you and your dumba$$ yankee compatriots with Geno and the Hartford Courant.

Go away, carpetbagger!!

Northie, this forum also appears to be a place for fans of opposing teams to come and make innacurate statements about their own programs as RocketVol pointed out. It also appears to be a place that those aforementioned fans, meaning you in this particular thread, can resort to making rude and stereotypical comments when they are called out regarding those innaccurate statements. It's a relatively simple issue, if it wasn't a violation of the rules, then I can't imagine why UConn would self-report it to the NCAA.

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaw/news?sl...

The real irony of the situation is the way that Auriemma complained a few short weeks ago about this issue being "re-hashed" and not wanting to discuss it. Yet here he is, two weeks after the season going on a rant about this very subject.

Pat Summitt=crybaby. He only stopped playing UConn because he couldn't beat them anymore.

Has the resident Geno/UConn fan, Jeff from Louisville, weighed in on this?

Northie why dont you go kiss Genos a$$ and tell me how a big cry babies a$$ taste. We destroyed Stanford with a One armed Candace an yet Uconn cant beat them with a two armed Mya. Pat was right she is the winningest coach of all time Geno isnt even worth the dog crap she picks up from her dog. He cheated got caught and now its Pats faught. I would have loved to see them in the Championship game. You cheated to get her yet a one armed Parker would have destroyed her like Wiggins.

God there are some arrogant people on this thread.

News flash, the number of games, championships, or head to head matches won by Pat or Geno are irrelevant to whether Pat or Geno is in the right.

Good post I-kid, as usual. However, Geno was asked the question again.

This is really good stuff. This is what I think, Pat has won again she has gotten in to Geno's head,he has little man disease.I also believe that SEC is not the only ones to make a comment to the NCAA.Can someone answer how a single mother can afford a $400,000.00 house in Connecticut ? I know God works in mysterious ways, but really.
Northie pass the word PLAY SOME GAMES ON THE ROAD not one of the 3 home courts. Lady Vols average more on the road than the northern team does at at any of the 3 home courts.
Act like ya' got some smarts.

My hunch is the ESPN tours have happened many times, PS became aware of them and asked Geno to quit them, since they were technically a secondary violation, but he wouldn't. So, she did what she was supposed to do, and reported his dumb-assness. And now he wants to make himself look like the victim.

Geno is a joke to most folks in the know, and the rest of the world is just getting to see it now. We've all laughed at his sorry ass for years, even when he won, and we all know why. He's a puss who couldn't cut it somewhere else. You know where. There. Said it.

Thanks WD40plus, agreed on both points regarding arrogance and that he was asked the question again but "taking the high road" or "no comment" or "I'm done talking about it" doesn't appear to be in Geno's vocabulary.

Personally, I think it was a bad move by Summitt. Whatever is going on between the two coaches shouldn't have gotten to the point that it affects the entire sport to a degree. Having the two preeminent programs in the sport playing every year is good for the game in terms of exposure.

Posted by brokebackvol on April 23, 2008 at 4:57 p.m. (Suggest removal)

My response (and could have been Pat's) - "Sour grapes, Geno."

I strongly suspect he was devastated to lose his chance to make Pat and the Lady Vols to play - and the NCAA Tourney is the only way they can be forced to play.

And imagine how much hype there will be when they do meet again - and we all know they are on a collision course.

Genie, Genie, Genie! Here's a primer: Unfortunately, you've confused "courage" with "class", as in Coach Summitt having enough class to stay above your public rants. Coach Summitt definitely demonstrated courage by standing up for one of her players and demanding that Duke's student section show some class. Lesson over. Hope you've learned something from it.
