Let the endorsements begin.
Gatorade and adidas announced Tuesday that it has signed University of Tennessee women's basketball player Candace Parker to endorsement deals. It's the first endorsement contracts for Parker, who was drafted No. 1 by the Los Angeles Sparks in the recent WNBA draft.
Both companies declined to disclose the value of the deals. Parker’s agent was not immediately available.
“It’s only fitting for me to announce Gatorade as my first partner as I begin my professional basketball career because they have been part of my life since the day I first picked up a basketball,” said Parker in a release from Gatorade. “It still means a lot to me that in high school I was honored as a two-time Gatorade High School Basketball Player of the Year and as a college athlete at the University of Tennessee, Gatorade was always on the sidelines."
Parker played three seasons at Tennessee and helped win two national championships. She is headed to Beijing as part of the 2008 U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team.
Parker is a two-time Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year (2003 and 2004) and the 2004 Gatorade High School Female Athlete of the Year, which honors the best male and female athlete across multiple high school sports.

GreerVol, you found a way to put a damper on an otherwise positive story of a deserving athlete. You are not funny and you spoil a lot of joy for other people. Read your stuff and put yourself in others' shoes. Imagine how it makes others feel when you steal their spotlight. I know the people you trash are probably not reading your posts, but those who enjoy and appreciate those athletes feel the embarrassment for them.
I think Candace will be a tremendous ambassador for the game. She always says the right thing. She's uniquely articulative. I suspect she will be overwhelmed by offers of endorsements.
Perhaps Mike Hamilton will get her to head up a fundraising drive for the University. (Tiny joke) I think she would bring in some pledges. I remember once when Eddie George of the TN Titans called me endorsing a candidate. I wanted to run out and vote that very day.

Congrats to you candace, This girl gave us some wonderful memories, and never once in all her time here did she ever say anything improper, etc when interviewed, in public, always spoke highly of UT, and acted appropriately. I hope she gets all she
deserves. She did so much for UT and our Lady Vols, its payback time.
I hope all these girls from this class do and acheive great things, they all deserve it

Now that Krispy-Kreme has signed Fulmer to an endorsement deal, the only thing left is for Pearl to get a deal from e-harmony.com

GATORade still donates a portion of their profits to the University of Florida where it was invented. Way to support the Gators.

This is where she is going to make her money because the WNBA salary is nothing.
Greervol, I for one can appreciate a good joke and don't pretend to be holier than thou. I thought what you said was hilarious.

98reax
I agree with you and what you said about Ms Parker as well as what you said about GreerVol22. I do not ever remember 98reax getting her posts removed by the moderators where as GeerVol22 has. Why would anyone go negative ("bad" his words) on a posting about Ms Parker. It looks like all the "men?" are on the same side against 98reax.

Packaway - Just to clarify. Gatorade was invented in 1965 at UF, but the Stokely Van Camp Co. (same Stokely after which the athletic center is named) bought the rights to produce, market and distribute it in 1967. In 1973, UF sued Stokley Van Camp for lost royalties and won claiming Gatorade should have been the intellectual property of the university and not that of the inventors. By court order, Pepsico, current owner of Gatorade, is required to place a small percentage of revenue in a scholarship trust for UF students in lieu of royalty payments to the university. However, they also continue to pay royalties to the inventors as well, regardless of UFs claims. So endeth the lesson.

In other words, it's not a donation. They don't pay it willingly and cannot claim it as a tax exemption.

Lighten up LV, this isn't exactly an Oprah blog.
By the way, my comment was removed because I abbreviated the word Japanese.

I'd love to see CP and Peyton do a commercial together. That'd be a huge advertisement advantage for UT.

bflynn & scott sitting in a tree
Painting everyone's good works negatively.
Wishing they could do anything half as good,
Which they probably could if they only would.
They're just stuck on themselves apparently
Sitting up there in their losers' tree
They have but one color; it's an ugly shade
Of hateful and spiteful remarks they have made.
Too bad they can't give credit to those who try.
Posting without abusive, off topic criticism, we apply
Respect to the athletes we admire and follow intensively.
They show up to revel in rudeness with such audacity.
I'm saddened for them up in their miasmic tree
From which they spew distain for you and me,
And all those who feel confident enough in their own skin
To kiss whomever they want; Fearing naught, continue to win.
Powerade and Nike will give no thought
To the likes of bflynn and scott.
They look for talent with character and respect
Not chauvinistic, pugnacious red about the neck.
