Tennessee softball player Tonya Callahan made it a clean sweep of national and conference weekly awards Wednesday by being named winner of the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week.
Callahan batted .667 against Ole Miss and LSU last week with three home runs and seven RBIs. She reached base safely on 16 of 18 at-bats for the week.
She leads the SEC in batting average (.466), slugging percentage (.924), on-base percentage (.693), total bases (121) and home runs (16).
Callahan was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA national player of the week Tuesday. On Monday, she was named SEC Player of the Week.
Women's Golf: Tennessee's Marci Turner was named to the All-SEC second team.
Turner led the Lady Vols in three tournaments this year, including the SEC championships last weekend. She has received SEC honors for three years, making first team as a sophomore and junior.
Rowing: The Lady Vols' varsity eight moved up to No. 5 in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Associaton poll - the best ranking in UT's 12-year history.
UT finished second in a competition last weekend, losing to No. 2 Yale but beating then-No. 4 Princeton.
Self Honored: Kirsten "Casey" Self, assistant sports information director for the Lady Vols, received honorable mention by Swimming World magazine for her work with UT women's swimming.
The Lady Vols' media guide for swimming got a superior ranking and the cover ranked third in the nation. Others in the women's sports information department made contributions to the guide.
