Quinton Washington knows what he will look for when he begins sifting through his list of schools.
The 6-foot-3, 315-pound offensive lineman from Timberland High School in St. Stephen, S.C., has received scholarship offers from seven schools: Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, North Carolina State, Clemson, Maryland and Miami.
Washington said he hasn’t begun researching the schools recruiting him, but he knows what they’ll need to offer.
“I’ll look for a place where I can get my degree and get a good education and have a great social life,” he said. “A place where I can have a good time and feel like I’m home.”
Feeling like he’s home will be a key.
Washington said the school he chooses will need to have a good chemistry between its coaching staff and players.
“That’s real important,” he said. “It’s got to be a place I can feel comfortable.”
Timberland head coach Art Craig believes Washington will feel comfortable on the field at any school he chooses.
Craig said Washington’s athleticism will help him adjust quickly to the college game.
“His feet are unbelievable for a guy his size,” Craig said. “He can reach you, he can down you, he can pull and go get somebody. He has unlimited potential.”
Craig said Washington, who plays offensive tackle at Timberland, projects to play guard in college.
If offense doesn’t work, Craig said Washington could move to defensive tackle.
“That’s what makes him remarkable too,” Craig said. “He’s very coachable. He’s willing to change if it means getting better.”
Craig praised Washington’s work ethic and efforts to get better.
Washington said he’s motivated to improve so he can provide a better future for his parents.
“They mean a whole lot to me,” he said. “They have to work so hard.
“I just want to make it. I want to make it better for my parents so I can give back to my parents someday.”

Would love to see him become the next great DT at UT.

It would be nice if KNS did pieces like this more often. I'm sure these kids love having their name in the papers, and that only helps us until somebody says something stupid. Imagine that.

"Great social life"! We got him locked up. Just let McNeil get him set up and show him the "ropes".

Sounds like some one we need to wear the orange jersey. Could be a D or O lineman sounds great we need linemen espescially on the defence. One thing bothers me, he wants a great social life, and to have fun. Hope he is not a future problem child.

Definitely don't want any fun at UT, not a good selling point for prospective students. heh.
I like that he has a goal["to make it"=NFL] and a good reason behind it [give back to his parents for all their hard work].

Well if he wants to "make it", he will have to be more serious, studious, responsible, et all. How about a degree to work with? Sorry there is no degree in partying or NFL. If he can stay out of trouble and do all the work necessary to earn a full scholorship degree and have a fabulous social life then he is very talented and we surely want him. But he is responsible for these things and nobody else is.

volinky, I asked the same question 2 days ago, and found out that he is still trying to gain admission and if or when he gets in, he will be a TE or DE.

Regardless of which college this young man attends, I like his attitude. I wish more people could see how hard parents work and had the desire to give back to their parents.
That being said, we could use more solid linemen at UT.

C'mon shop give the kid a break. No one wants to go to school and be bored. Social life is a big deal to any recruit let alone any college student. Seems like a good character kid who grew up in house where hard work was emphasized. I like the kid and would love to see him with a big #98 jersey on him at DT or a #77 on the oline.
