Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt and R.B. Summitt signed divorce papers Friday, officially ending their marriage after more than 27 years.
The couple has been separated for just over two years. Pat Summitt filed for divorce in Blount County Circuit Court last August, citing "irreconcilable differences."
The couple has one child. Ross Tyler Summitt, a junior at Webb School. Tyler lives with his mother.
Pat Summitt said last August that she doesn't plan to change her name. A campus street and the court at Thompson-Boling Arena are named after her. The basketball court at UT Martin, her alma mater, is named after her as well, along with a campus street.
R.B. Summitt is the president of Sevier County Bank.
Pat Summitt just finished her 34th season as the Lady Vols coach, helping guide her team to its second consecutive national championship and the eighth in program history. The Lady Vols beat Stanford 64-48 in the national championship game April 8 in Tampa, Fla.
She became the first female recipient of the Legends of Coaching Award, which was adopted by the John R. Wooden Award Committee in 1999.
Pat and R.B. were married Aug. 23, 1980, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church near Clarksville, Tenn.
