Britton Colquitt’s hearing on charges relating to a February arrest have been postponed to June 25.
The Tennessee junior punter is facing charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident after hitting a parked car and fleeing in Feb. 17 incident. Colquitt was arrested about a mile from the incident.
According to police records, Colquitt admitted to having two beers, three mixed drinks and hitting the parked Ford Focus as well as a tree stump.
Colquitt subsequently lost his UT scholarship and is suspended for the first five games of the 2008 season following his fifth alcohol-related incident since arriving on campus in 2003.
Colquitt was the sixth UT football player charged by police from Jan. 11 to Feb. 17. The Vols have not had a public incident since Colquitt’s arrest.
Colquitt’s older brother Dustin was an All-American punter at UT and father Craig was an All-SEC punter at Tennessee.

Do they have a special cellblock for all the UT football players at the jail? Are the walls painted orange? Will these dumbazzes ever learn?

Getting arrested or pulled over once on an alcohol related incident is embarrassing but not outlandish for a college kid. However. After three times. You need to seek professional help. It gets to be a mental health issue. Forget football. I don't want to see this kid end up like so many others. Wasting his life in a bottle. I will always wish these young guys well as most of the issues are stupid decision issues that have caused no serious bodily harm to anyone. We were all young once. Some kids just need more direction and discipline.

The posts so far are pretty sympathetic, but I am pretty sure what is coming from some quarters. I wish some people would just ease up on this kid, and yes he is just a kid.
Clearly, he has a problem that he, his family, friends and coaches have tried to overcome. He has failed again and might fail again in the future. From all accounts he has sought help. He simply failed.
He is certainly paying a price for his actions, regardless of what people like John Adams might say. The legal system is not giving him a free ride, and Coach Fulmer is not giving him a free ride.
A lot of people are angry with Coach Fulmer and the performance of the team over the past few years. Fine. Fulmer gets paid to take the heat, and I have not heard him so much as whimper about it. But I am disgusted to see some people take their frustrations out on a kid who has given a lot to UT and the fans.
I have a daughter in UT. If she ever gets down on her luck and some jackass was to take a cheap shot at her, I would kick the hell out of that jackass if I could get my hands on him.
But that is the point isn't it? These jackasses are running their mouths in the safe anonymity of the internet. Does anyone believe these jackasses would have the nerve to say these things to Britton's face? His father? Fulmer? You probably couldn't grind them up into hamburger meat and throwm on somebody.

rllipscomb, lighten up. its a blog, its supposed to be nasty, dirty, mean, uplifting, sympathetic, stupid, and meaningless all at the same time.
By the time your daughter has reached college the only thing you can do is pray you have done your level best as a parent to teach consequence for ones actions. and guess what, as an adult, Brittons actions are fair game for riducule in any form.

rllipscomb, I just hope that Briton doesn't run over your daughter or mine.
Britton should have been dismissed from the team long ago. He has a great Leg, but that doesn't mean he should be allowed to endanger the rest of the Students.
He is a punter, a good punter, and they are a dime a dozen. And I will say that to anyone, at anytime.

It appears that this man is an alcholic. I agree with some of rllipscomb's comments, if he's saying that alcholism is an illness and that it's more productive to encourage a fellow to overcome his illness rather than to be judgmental about it.
But when someone repeatedly chooses to mix alcohol and autos, it's very hard to be sympathetic. I agree with LadyVolsEighTimes that everyone's lucky that no one has been killed.

First of all, He is not "A Kid" He's and Adult. He has a responsibilty to His school,Team, his family, and most of all, to himself.
Now, If it was his first time, OK, I would call it bad Judgment, but its not,How many chances do you give a person? How many times was he not caught?
He should pay a heavy price. I Believe Phil is doing the right thing, Some people learn the hard way.

Don't drink and drive, you might hit a bump and spill your drink. Or in Colquitt's case a parked car.

Driving while drunk is unacceptable and criminal. I never suggested anything else. I did not say Britton should not be accountable for his actions and pay whatever price is required. I said the opposite.
As for GreerVol22's observation, a blog is just one of many forums for making statements that are "nasty, dirty, mean" and so on. Using a blogs as your forum does not make you any less responsible for your actions and your statements. Kicking anyone while they are down is pretty gutless to begin with. To do it hiding behind "GreerVol22" is even more gutless.
DekanGator, being 21 means you are an adult under the law. As I continue to say, he committed a crime and should be held accountable, as an adult. But it belies your ignorance, which I presume to be attributable to youth, to not understand that he is in many, many ways still a kid. It appears that he is a kid who is fighting a devil. He needs to be stopped from endangering others and helped in dealing with his problem. Again, taking a cheap shot at a kid while hiding behind "DekanGator" is gutless. Presumably, you think this helps support the University of Florida. I do not see how.
As I said in my original post, I doubt that we could grind people like GreerVol22 and DekanGator into hamburger meat and throw them onto the Colquitts or Fulmer in person.

Colquitt's earlier offenses were immediately after he arrived about 4 years ago. I don't think any involved DUI but rather underage drinking.
He may have a problem. But that isn't necessarily what we should determine based on this last problem since so much time passed since the prior problems.
rllipscomb, I hope nothing but the best for Colquitt. He is however an adult and should be more responsible- especially considering his high profile in K'ville.
