Media day kicks off start of practice

Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer addressed the media Saturday morning.

Among topics he discussed:

Injuries: Tight end Jeff Cottam, offensive lineman William Brimfield and linebacker Josh Hawkins will be limited early.

Defensive tackle Donald Langley will miss practice Saturday to be with his mother, who is seriously ill.

Linebacker Gerald Williams needs one class to become eligible, and Fulmer said he hopes Williams will take care of business.

Still no word on Brandon Warren, although Fulmer said a decision from the SEC is "long overdue."

Quarterback Jonathan Crompton will wear the No. 22 on his wristband to honor a close high school friend who was killed by a drunk driver in January.

More later online and in Sunday's News Sentinel.

Haven't even had our first practice yet and we have injury talk already.

FWBVol writes:

Workin, none of those are new injuries. They are still at various points of recovery from the spring etc. As much time as you are on this site you would know that.

vtvol, the second session of summer school won't be over until August 7th, he shouldn't know for sure until then. I know the article from the Tennessean said he was cleared, but grades for second session aren't even due until August 12th. It is very unlikely that he knows yet.

Maybe Crompton can get Colquitt to wear number 22 too when he comes back.

Was John Adams invited?

I hope Adams is "banned" from any practice......

I bet John Adams will get a "special place" in the press box...

A much more complete article is available on www.utsports.com. I can't believe the local home town paper carried this small bit of information. I know the KNS hates the Vols, but gimme a break.

vol4gzus writes:

Does that racist thing cut both ways? Ya know wasted jerseys and the such. Some call it reverse racism when all the direction is racist against white, latino, etc. Thankfully we haven't seen that on this site.......

Pads will be hitting soon and all to be healthy except Holbert, Sawtelle and few others.

What's up fellow Vols fans,

I am a life long, die hard Vols fan and am finally back in TN after suffering through 2 seasons in Little Rock, AR. I have been reading this site for a long time and have finally decided to join in the fun. Enough about me, has anyone heard anything about the guy from Georgia that played pro baseball and finally decided to play NCAA football. Remember he was suppose to be good out of High School and was going to add depth and leadership to our Def. back field. I know he got into trouble for a DUI, but have not heard anything since. Apologize for the long post.

GO VOLS!!

OakyVol09 writes:

Whoops, the post was not as long as I thought.

ncvol writes:

OakyVol09 Welcome back to TN. Don't know the outcome of the guy from GA.Anyone know?
Go Vols !!

OakyVol09 writes:

Thanks Guys!

I was just wondering. I know we have great depth at corner with whoever ending up as the backups having good game experience and will be able to fill in nicely when needed. Don't think we have the same depth at safety, At least not at the beginning of our schedule. Any idea on who is projected to backup Morely and Supereman?

DC,

Now that was some funny stuff!

Prayers go out to Donald. I hope his mom is okay. On another sad note, former Bama head coach Gene Stallings lost his son this morning. Rival or no, I feel for the guy. The loss of a child is something I would never want to face. Thoughts and prayers to his family as well.

Definitely like hearing that from EB. Clawson won't have to reinvent the wheel to make most of us happy, just call something slightly unexpected for the down & distance.
