Former Tennessee athlete Gary Kikaya advanced to the semifinals of the men's 400 meters at the Beijing Olympics on Monday.
Kikaya, running for the Democratic Republic of Congo, was clocked in 44.89 seconds, the fourth-fasted time overall.
Kikaya was fourth in his heat but still was faster than the winners of the other six heats.
Kikaya runs the semifinals at 9:45 a.m. (Eastern time) today.
