Team bus involved in minor incident

A bus driver transporting members of the Tennessee football team home from a team outing Monday night became ill, forcing the bus to pull over on Montvale Road in Maryville.

According to Blount County E-911 center, the driver was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

Due to privacy laws, the driver’s condition is unknown.

UT coach Phillip Fulmer was trailing the bus in his car and pulled off the road to assist once the driver became ill, which happened shortly after 8 p.m. Monday.

No one was injured, Fulmer said Monday night during his weekly radio show “Vol Calls.”

The team was on its way back to Knoxville from an outing at a farm in Blount County, UT sports information director Bud Ford said Monday night.

However, Blount County E-911 center said the bus was not involved in any kind of collision and no one was injured as a result of the incident.

Staff writer J.J. Stambaugh contributed to this report.

tngeoff - I'm sure he was referring to the 4th grader who has nothing better to do than refresh govols hoping for a new article on which he can quickly scroll to the end without even reading just to post "1st" so he can tell all his buddies at school the next day what a huge loser he is.

MrBamSeydu writes:

if you actually put "1st" on an article you are either mentally retarded or a complete loser that doesn't actually care about UT football.

ibvolman writes:

You folks getting tweaked out of shape over the "first" thing really need to relax. It is comical, and just another way to pass the time and boredom from such uninformative articles flowing from the KNS.

Oh, and by the way...20th!!!!!!

What a non-story! If I had not have mis-read 'accident' for 'incident,' and now knowing what I know about the article, I would not have read it! Last night, I had an 85 year old driver T-boned from the passenger's side at 70 mph. All he had were broken ribs, and a bruised sternum from the air bag, but because of his age, he was med-evaced by helicopter to a trauma center. Later, I had a 4 roll-over vehicle containing two young men: one with an open radial fracture and the other with a pelvic fracture. Because of the weather, they had to go by ground. I (unfortunately) was anticipating an article giving bad news like that! Hope that the driver recovers nicely, and I'm glad that nobody was injured. Go Vols! SAVol

cleVOLand, very clever.

I heard the receivers got in some good hands work milking the chickens....but I'm not sure which was worse though, the poor driver, or the fact that the receivers actually tried to milk chickens...

I can't believe no one mentioned this already, but Fulmer was talking on Vol Calls from his cell when the incident occurred. It was kind of weird. You could hear him talking to someone there with him. He said something like, "Is he sick?" Then he told Kesling a bus had pulled over and he had to go and would call back, then click.

Guess the driver is okay. Hope so.

I hope the bus driver is ok, but why is this even a sports story?
Looking at the positive side we could say that it is great that there are no issues involving this team or individual players so stories like are all they have to talk about.

What a venue for scrimmaging with real live ornery bulls! Great for the backs to see if they can run from one end of the pasture without being gored, knocked flat, or stepping in something. receivers must negotiate a pattern that eludes el toro and also evade cow patties, and the whole team would benefit "good hands" people when they tried to milk the bulls! Yeehaw!
Go Larg Arnj!

Who cares if someone posts first? Its become a tradition, its only words, and really, WHY ARE PEOPLE GETTING UPSET ABOUT IT.
If you think about it, getting upset about a poster typing the words "first" is sillier than actually posting ""first".

Know what I mean?

all you guys complaining about first...get over it. Just skip the first posts and start reading. You guys are making this thing a bigger deal than I have ever seen.

stale_cut_grass was not funny ,but in poor taste. I know, tell me to lighten up ,but drunk driving is no joke since many die as a result of it. So trying to be funny(many thot it twas..shame..shame) using that type of humor really fell short of the goalposts.

Goodday Paul Harvey page two....

39th. vol4, i'll put you in the same category as the folks complaining about who writes first. you're right, 'lighten up', no one was hurt and it was funny.

Nothing funny about someone driving drunk when you've seen the accident scene and the damage done. So 'heavy up' and see whats funny and whats not. Food for thot....the Romans thot it was fun to put pitch on the Christians then light them as their torches.

WVVOLFAN writes:

i've both seen an accident and been hit by a drunk driver vol4. nothing funny about either. i choose to see the lighter side of things and laugh at what i percieve to be funny. you evidently do not. which is fine. if you feel the need to lecture, take it to an AA meeting. i will enjoy my life whether you like it or not. how you can connect a funny statement to the torture of Christians is beyond me. lol.

Best Wishes
