UT to use junior varsity team against Hargrave on Nov. 13

Tennessee has added a game to its 2008 home schedule. The Vols will assemble a junior varsity team to play Hargrave Military Academy in Neyland Stadium on Nov. 13. UT played Hargrave last season.

The game will feature two former Farragut players trying to work their way into college football. Tailback Andre Sterling and offensive lineman James Harrill are attending Hargrave in Chatham, Va.

It will allow UT another opportunity to evaluate Sterling, who signed with Ole Miss in February. Sterling would not be required to attend Ole Miss if he completed a year at Hargrave and he could sign with any team without penalty.

NCAA regulations limit which players UT can use in the game. Players whom UT plans to redshirt will not play because participating in the game would burn their redshirt year.

Also, players can participate in only 12 regular-season games per year.

Good! I really hope that this becomes an annual thing. It's a great way to get the interest of some of these great players.

gives the jv some action as well that some might not ever see

Just because a player played in East TN does not make them great... in fact, most times it means the exact opposite.

I don't even know if I can name a BIG TIME player to come out of East TN unless you consider Chad Pennington.... but he really was never that good. Maybe Joey Mathews??? ha ha ha ha ha sike!

HUH?

While there may not be many, there are a few BIG TIME players from East TN besides Pennington (IMO, NFL = Big Time), so just for the record, here's a few:
James Stewart is from Morristown (UT/Detroit Lions)
Jason Witten is from Elizabethton (UT/Dallas)
Gerald Sensabaugh is from Kingsport(ETSU/NC/Jaguars)
Aubrayo Franklin is from Johnson City (UT/49ers)

There are some others, including Curt Phillips from Kingsport (Wisconsin) that could be BIG TIME, but only time will tell.

What a great idea! Use our walk-ons, never-to-bes and jvs--just keep bringing those prep school players to Neyland stadium to give them a taste of what it could be for them during college. Schedule three or four games/year like that. If we can get a couple of players each year from these 'scouting sessions,' I'm sure that it will be worthwhile. Go Vols! SAVol

I still like the idea. Like what ya'll said.

Reggie White ... one of the greatest college football players ever, and one of the greatest pros.

Chattanooga.

East Tennessee.

I weep for the future of this country.

Heck, I'd even consider Danny Spradlin of Maryville (played at UT) "Bigtime" because he played for the Cowboys and Bucs.

I thought it was great when they still ahd the freshmen teams. In a lot of ways, the players developed better.

To add to James "Little Man" Stewart... he was also a 1st round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars (#19 overall in the 1995 draft). He spent 5 years there before he left in Free Agengy for a nice contract with Detroit.

How could anyone forget Spurrier?!

What tommy said, plus, another pair to come out of Chattanooga is the Bullocks brothers(identicle twins). They started at Nebraska and are currently starting in the Pros, one for the Detroit Lions and the other for the Saints.

PD: Red. But it will be sweeter and colder when you pay for it. Fear not the Bruins. Ok to start worrying after 9/13.

Hargrave Military Academy had a DT last year named Robert Torn, he is the real deal. He was supposed to go to UCF this year but the NCAA screwed up on paper work and he didn’t get in. I know we are desperate for DT’s, someone should check into this kid.

Hey, wasn't John Stalworth from Alcoa/Maryville/Blount County.

He's not quite Reggie White level of awesomeness, but mighty close and with a few SB rings from when the Steelers dominate. (showing my age)

Oh well, Alcoa... Alabama... You can see how I would be confused at my advanced age
