Maze attends classes, awaits clearance

Bobby Maze, an incoming junior college All-American point guard, attended the opening of fall classes Wednesday at the University of Tennessee.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Maze, who is transferring from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, is still awaiting acceptance from the UT admissions office.

Maze came to Knoxville on his own dime this summer to play in the Pilot Rocky Top League at Bearden High School along with his future teammates.

The reviews were strong: Maze won the league's Allan Houston Award, which recognizes the league's “Most Outstanding'' player.

Maze, however, had work to do finishing up his academic requirements before he could transfer into Tennessee on scholarship.

Maze, who is from Suitland, Md., is expected to compete with incoming freshman Daniel West for the starting point guard duties.

Tennessee must replace its starting backcourt from a year ago; Chris Lofton, JaJuan Smith and Jordan Howell ran out of eligibility, and former starting point guard Ramar Smith left the program after the season.

Maze played at Patterson (N.C.) Prep School before accepting a scholarship to Oklahoma. After leaving the Sooners, Maze transferred to Hutchinson.

How can he attend the first day of classes when he is still awaiting to hear if he has been accepted? I didn't know you could even register for classes without being accepted. What does he tell a professor after they've done roll... don't worry I haven't been accepted to UT yet, but I will?

Lets just hope the NCAA does not give him the Gerald Williams treatment or he will be 30 by the time he gets cleared to play.

This is OLD news...the guy took summer school classes at UT and finished his JUCO work while doing so. He's in and it's a done deal. Griffith as usual is about 2 weeks behind!

I don't think it will be much of a competition between Maze and West to see who starts. Maze has more experience at the collegiate level. West will be a good one in time. But Maze will be a good one right away.

Alright who let the kitty in? Get back outside and play with the field mice. Keep the mice away from the Gillespie home they've got about 20 6th graders over playing roundball this week....something about big blue future.

Also glad the kitty is an expert on students ability to do classwork.Go back to your kittycage and get back with us during bball time. You need to get back to work I heard somone in the background say. Something about needing more fries in the hopper. See ya this fall with your new Qb and supporting cast. Coach Brooks have them ready for opener with Louisville?

Maze do your school stuff so if you ever get injured you have something to fall back on. GO VOLS!!

Oh bTW wurkin' he ain't such except in your own mind. He works hard as those around him do also. They get results that for the most part VOL fans like and appreciate.

B. Maze is a really good young man. The grades and elgibility are a real concern. The euro's were recruiting the RTL very hard, so the assertation by CSF is not without merit. Let's just pull for the kid and hope he gets square on everything.
