SEC matchups for Thursday

Vanderbilt (0-0) at Miami, Ohio (0-0)

Time: 7:30 p.m. TV: ESPNU

Skinny: Vanderbilt leads the series 2-1, including a 24-13 win over the RedHawks in 2007. This will be the first time in the brief series that the game will not take place at Vanderbilt. Miami returns 17 of its 22 starters and is bidding to win its fifth Mid-American Conference East Division title in the past six years.

Key Players: Chris Nickson and Mackenzi Adams are vying for the Commodores' quarterbacking duties, and Vanderbilt returns a pair of starting receivers for them to throw to in George Smith and Sean Walker. Miami linebacker Clayton Mullins was the 2007 MAC Defensive Player of the Year, and fellow linebacker Joey Hudson is a two-time All-MAC selection and a team captain.

Line: Miami by 1

North Carolina State (0-0) at South Carolina (0-0)

Time: 8 p.m. TV: ESPN

Skinny: This will be the first time the teams have met since 1999, in Lou Holtz's first game as the Gamecocks' head coach. The Wolfpack won that meeting, 10-0, and holds a 26-25-4 edge in the series. It's the first of three consecutive games South Carolina and coach Steve Spurrier will have televised nationally.

Key Players: Gamecocks' receiver Kenny McKinley, one of six returning offensive starters, is coming off a season that saw him catch a school-record 77 passes for 968 yards and nine TDs. McKinley is projected to leave South Carolina as the career record holder in nearly all receiving categories, but Spurrier has yet to settle on who will be throwing him the ball. The Wolfpack has great depth in the backfield with two returning 1,000-yard rushers, Toney Baker and Andre Brown, and another, Jamelle Eugene, who ended last season with three 100-yard outings over the last six games.

Line: South Carolina by 13 1/2.

I'm just glad to finally get the season started. I don't care who is playing right now. Tennessee by 30.

Man - SC by 13.5!

Good game possibly. And Vandy a dog. Who'd a thunk it.

Oh well, let 'er rip!

Go Doers! Go Wolfpack!

I've visited the stadium and campus at Miami of Ohio. Beautiful area. Small, small stadium. In terms of preppyness of the student body, Vandy and Miami are a match.

It's just about FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!

bobbarbilly writes:

South Carolina/NC State should be the better game but at least there will be something besides the Obama show to watch.
IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!

GO REDHAWKS!!!!!

...GAMECOCKS....WOLFPACK...does it really matter?
would like the SEC to beat ACC, but, it IS Spurrier!

jasonn1970 writes:

Why would an SEC team (even Vanderbilt) schedule a road game at Miami of Ohio??

pdhuff#552644 writes:

Gen Melon 9:01- are you hinting that RammaJamma would play $4 mil in order to lose?

Pshaaaw.....

WVVOLFAN writes:

my point exactly jason. vandy is lowering theirs and the SEC standards.

orangebloodgmc writes:

Volboy81, it sure is. Go wolfpack.

dontcallitacomeback writes:

Watermelon, don't count Bama out so fast. I think you will see a close game. Clemson's O-line is very suspect. Ravensearay, I do see UT winning but not by 30. UT 31 UCLA 17. Let's just hope all SEC teams win. It helps the conference.

KennesawVol writes:

I think (but not sure) that Vanderbilt had a home-and-home deal worked out with Miami-Ohio.

longtimefan writes:

NC STATE that bad? Man, the ACC is weak! STill i think i'd take the points. Expect Vandy to lose. Make the SEC look bad as usual. They cant do any better than that for a home and home series? Thats a shame!

BigOrangeVol writes:

VU and MO do have a home-n-home. The question is why? That's humiliating to them and the SEC. Last year I got a call to see if our church and several others would put up the MO band because they couldn't afford a hotel. Evidently it didn't work out because I think they left the band in Ohio.

The 'dores are a 3 1/2-4 point dog. A Mid-America team favored over an SEC team? How pitiful is that entire situation? I'd rather see MTSU, any La. directional school or Southern Miss in the SEC than Candy. 26 years without a winning season makes them a national laughing stock and drags down the quality of the SEC!

They are an embarrassing athletic sycophant that survives by sucking off of the SEC teat to the tune of $10 million a year without contributing much of anything except for comedic value.

jasonn1970 writes:

If Vandy wanted to step up to the 'Big Time' they should be scheduling home and home's against Big 10 teams, not Miami of Ohio. Given their struggles you'd think they would want a bunch of easy home wins. Though their game against MTSU a few years back proved nothing's a given for them.

longtimefan writes:

BigOrangeVol: I agree completely. Couldn't get rid of that bloodsucker if they wanted too! They will never contribute anything to the league. They would fit better in the ACC or Big 10 11 12 13 or whatever they are right now! Maybe the SEC should do a little horse trading with another conference!

orangebloodgmc writes:

Go Clemson, go Wolfpack. (Do wolves come in a six pack or a twelve?)

givehim6 writes:

Would like to see the doers and gamecocks both too win, it will give the SEC more value. And look better on UT by beating a team with more wins under there belts. GO VOLS!

longtimefan writes:

Vanderbilt vs Northwestern.. sounds good! Vanderbilt vs Duke.. sounds good! Go away.. sounds good!
