Hughes, Walls to prep school

As expected, Tennessee signees Montori Hughes and Marlon Walls will enroll in prep school, UT coach Phillip Fulmer said following practice Friday.

The two will either attend Fork Union or Hargrave Military, Fulmer said. Their academic progress in the next year will determine when they can enroll at UT.

As a result, junior defensive back Derrick Furlow has been placed on scholarship.

This is actually very good.I've heard both were close enough to qualifying that they could only have to spend 1 semester at prep.I think you will definately be hearing from these 2.Both have worked too hard to even get academically eligible for prep school. They would have both been redshirted anyway.

Some one said a month ago, he would never qualify now.

Maybe one of the gator guys..

Don't mention those clowns (gators) ,pdhuff. It's been nice and quiet for a while.

Whatever happened to old 99? Is it too close to the season now and he needs to focus on his home team?

utwick writes:

99 is focused on Hawaii this week and hoping that those ACLs hold up for the rest of the team. He seems a decent chap, hope that he was not in the path of the tropical storm.

Don't write these two off yet. It seems like UGA had a constant pipeline of non qualifiers who played at Fork Union and the went on to contribute to the Dawgs. If these guys are gamers lets support them and wish them a quick return

What happened with the Gerald Williams issue? Was he allowed to play?

Never mind! Saw that he was released to play in DVX.

why does everyone at espn keep calling our offense the spread? it not the spread its a west coast offense right????????

volunteer_cowboy writes:

Tennessee (-7 1/2) over UCLA. Rick Neuheisel is back with the Bruins, who won the 1984 Rose Bowl with him as their quarterback. But that’s pretty much the only positive these days for UCLA, which will start inexperienced QB Kevin Craft after Patrick Cowan and Ben Olson both both went down with injuries this offseason. The Bruins also have a bad offensive line, which portends poorly against an aggressive and experienced Tennessee pass rush.

On the other side, new offensive coordinator Dave Clawson will unveil his new spread offense. Still, the Volunteers will make sure that big-time RB Arian Foster gets plenty of touches to keep the UCLA defense honest. Clawson’s new-look offense might get off to a slow start, but Foster and Co. should eventually put up some points in this one. Factor in that UCLA will have an extremely difficult time moving the ball, and everything points to the Vols. Tennessee wins, 31-10.
