Maze officially cleared for school

University of Tennessee junior college transfer Bobby Maze was officially cleared by the school’s admissions office on Friday.

“I think Bobby did a good job following the plan that was set for him by Hutchinson (Kan., Comunity College) and the University of Tennessee,’’ said Vols’ assistant basketball coach Steve Forbes, who served as Maze’s primary recruiter. “Bobby did everything asked of him and his hard work paid off. It was a process he had to go through.’’

Forbes said Maze is taking a “full load’’ — at least 12 hours — this fall semester. Maze started classes Aug. 20 with the rest of the UT student body. The school’s admissions office had been reviewing Maze’s transcript, as it does with all incoming transfer students.

A former Oklahoma player and a junior college All-American, Maze is expected to compete for the starting point guard duties this season with incoming Vols’ freshman Daniel West.

Maze is one of six newcomers on this year’s team, joining West and his fellow freshman class of shooting guard Scotty Hopson, power forward Emmanuel Negedu, swingman Renaldo Woolridge and post Phillip Jurick.
