Tennessee started its volleyball season in dominating fashion Friday.
The Lady Vols swept in-state rival Chattanooga, 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 in the opening match of the Marquette Kickoff Tournament in Milwaukee.
Tennessee held Chattanooga to a minus-.100 hitting percentage.
"This was definitely a good way to start off the season and a positive step forward after last year,'' sophomore Nikki Fowler said.
Fowler, last season's SEC freshman of the year, played a large part in the victory. She led UT with 13 kills and also had nine digs and four blocks.
"Nikki started this season right where she left off last year, providing us with an effective and consistent offensive weapon,'' Lady Vols coach Rob Patrick said. "I was especially pleased that we were able to have her attack from all areas of the net."
Chloe Goldman led UT with 10 digs. In her first match as a Lady Vol, Michaela Hanakova had a team-high 20 assists.
Tennessee plays Houston this morning and concludes tournament play against host Marquette tonight.
Soccer: Indiana upset No. 14 Tennessee 2-0 in the Aggie Soccer Invitational in College Station, Texas.
Kelly Lawrence scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute, and Liz Holby added a goal near the end of regulation.
Devon Beach was taken down to set up Lawrence's penalty kick.
"Devon just terrorized them,'' Indiana coach Mick Lyon said. "She was close to scoring three or four times."
