Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin has given running back Dominique Allen something to think about.
Kiffin visited Allen at Henry County High School in Paris, Tenn., on Wednesday.
Kiffin made a favorable impression on the 6-foot, 250-pound Allen, who switched his commitment from UT to LSU last month.
“He’s a nice guy,” Allen said of Kiffin. “He’s straightforward and to the point.
“I like him. I like how he runs his offense.”
Allen said he likes that he would be able to run the ball in Kiffin’s offense.
“He really had me mostly in a one-back set rather than playing straight fullback,” Allen said. “I like what he said about that. Anywhere I go I’m going to get the rock, really.”
Allen said he’s impressed with the job Kiffin did as an offensive assistant at Southern Cal.
Allen especially liked the way Kiffin used running backs Reggie Bush and LenDale White together.
“He gave more carries to LenDale White than Reggie Bush in their careers,” Allen said. “He produced a lot of great athletes you see now in the NFL.”
Kiffin has asked Allen to take an official visit to UT. Allen took his official visit to LSU on Oct. 25.
Allen said he will decide in the next few weeks if he wants to visit UT.
“There’s nothing solid right now,” Allen said. “I’m not going to shut them out completely.”
Kiffin also opened a door with Allen’s teammate, athlete Marsalis Teague.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Teague is considering UT, Florida, Alabama and Georgia Tech.
Allen said he and Teague will consider the idea of playing together at UT.
“It does play a factor but we both have to do what’s best for us,” Allen said. “If LSU is what’s best for me so be it. We’re still going to keep in touch no matter what.”

And Vadal Hazelton is transferring from USC. Kiffin recruited him... ??? and connections?

Sounds like he's serious about putting up that fence around the state. That would be a great start. I never understood why a top prospect would leave TN to go to any other SEC school.
Be a Vol Dominique. We'll join you in Paris for the annual fish fry!

Hey, more fuel to the rumor QB Matt Barkley may look around, USC's OC is reported to be Washingtons new head coach, that is the man who recruited Barkley at USC. Barkley is also said to be big on Lane Kiffin....don't know if that means a ton, but it certainly won't hurt the odds! You know Kiffin would be all over any opportunity that shines like that.
VOLinDAWGland writes:
If we can get some lineman in and the lineman we have to run block then I'm not so worried about who can hand it to them. We probably won't see much out of the passing game until 2010. I think 2009 will be smash mouth offense and physical defense. Kiffin will play to keep it close and make the fewest mistakes to grab a couple of upsets. 2010 will be year two in Kiffin's system with a hand picked QB some seasoned play makers at WR to go with the smash mouth running game already established - SC will be fading, GA will have plateaued and appear a bit stale which will leave us and FL to decide the East.
Richt has blinked by not firing his DC after this season. Spurrier would have canned him as would Saban or Meyer.

That won't matter either if he has no time to throw. I think Stephens or Coleman could be effective, maybe not outstanding. Neither will be if no big MEN up front.

I put the Barkley rumor up and people kept bashing me for it. There's also some grumbling about Aaron Murray, too (the UGA commit).
There's a reason we basically told Tahj Boyd he wasn't really what we're looking for now that Fulmer is gone.

I think that Peter White and Morgan Moses are inclined to show up in Knoxville. I'm not sure if White can play as a freshman, but I'm pretty sure that Moses can. Left tackle was the our worst position last year anyhow. If Moses can come in and settle that down, I'm pretty sure that Scott can play RT, McNeil--C, McClendon--RG, and Vlad Richard.

Does anybody besides me wish we had a kicker who could put the kick-off 5 yds. deep in the endzone? I never understood how kickers can make 55 yard field goals off the ground but can't kick it 15-20 yards further off a tee. I really wish we had a kid capable of doing that. I think it is overlooked asset to the defense? Maybe it is just me...I dunno

Matt Barkley is not coming to Tennessee. Brent Hubbs spoke with Barkley's father today about the rumors. He assured Hubbs that he is 100% committed to USC. He went further and said that Matt is committed to USC and not a coach. He has not spoken with Kiffin and will not entertain the idea of going anywhere other than USC.
Josh Nunes is probably the most likely scenario for Tennessee.
MrBamSeydu writes:
Josh Nunes is just as unlikely. He, too, is committed to the school of his dreams.
Kevin Newsome is also not interested in UT at this point.
The Auburn decommit would also not make very much sense. He is more of a dual threat QB, but he does have better size than Tahj Boyd.
I would keep an eye on Aaron Murray (UGA commit), Bryn Renner (UNC commit), and Chris Garrett (LSU commit).
If it's true that Barkley is 100% uninterested in UT, then I apologize for posting that rumor. I haven't seen that but I do know his dream school, much like Nunes, is where he is committed so it was a tough pull no matter what.
AJ McCarron is also committed to his dream school, and he's from Mobile so I wouldn't even waste my time thinking about him committing to UT.
NoogaVol55 writes:
I know you said he is not committed to a coach...but the USC OC is going to Washington...I wonder if that might turn a head or two.
JBruce writes:
McCarron is a soft verbal that is still taking visits. McCarron is definately in play for Tennessee.
Nunes was committed to Tennessee but switched to Stanford. From what I have been told, he decommitted because he had doubts (understandably)about Clawson's offense. That is why I say he is in play.
govols87 writes:
Yes, R.Randle is from that area and he is uncommitted but I haven't seen UT anywhere near his list...don't rule him out though as I'm sure CLK hasn't...keep at it coach and go vols!!!

I'd still try to go after Barkley....sounds like his daddy just doesn't want him to be so far away from home. I'd push for him for certain.
cardinalvol writes:
Barkley's Dad is a USC alum and his cousin is a current walk-on. I don't think he'll give UT a thought.
As for Nunes, he indicated in his decommitment statement that the travel was too difficult for his parents...who will watch his younger brother play on Friday nights and then try to make it to whatever college on Saturday to watch him. I grew up in Upland and it is a 6-7 hour drive north to Stanford; and even closer for some away games. The travel to Knoxville or any other SEC game, by comparison, would be h*ll.
I doubt he glances back east either.

JBruce writes:
I guess his study hall buddies know more about what he is thinking than anybody. Rivals has him listed as a soft verbal that is still taking visits.
DC_Vol writes:
Here is the most recent blog on Hazelton. I know he considered UT the first time around. I am sure he is aware we need receivers, so I think he is probably considering us. Based on his experience with USC, I think he will consider going to a team this time who needs wide receiver help so he can ensure playing time. That would be UT. I think all players headed to USC should read this blog and consider decommitting, because a lot of great talent is wasted on the bench at that school due to the extensive depth of talent at all of their positions.

Giles Moving Closer To Commitment Day
By Phil Kornblut
He didn't mean to tip his hand, and maybe he didn't, but RB Jarvis Giles (6-0 180) of Tampa Tuesday night may have provided a clue about what he's thinking regarding making a commitment to either USC or Nebraska. Giles disclosed that USC head coach Steve Spurrier and running backs coach Robert Gillespie will make an in home visit with him and his family Thursday night. Asked if that meeting could seal the deal on a commitment to the Gamecocks, Giles responded, "I know for a fact I'm going to.... well, I mean, I'm going to make a commitment next week." Asked if he meant he was going to commit to USC, Giles would only say USC and Nebraska are his top two. Nebraska's running backs coach visited him Monday. "It went real good," he said. "He explained a lot of stuff to my dad. My dad walked out with a lot more knowledge about Nebraska." Tennessee recruiters Stan Drayton and David Reaves are to visit Giles Friday, Giles, a former Tennessee commitment, said he's not strongly considering the Vols. "I just want to hear what they're going to say."
Looks like we can probably cross Giles off the list as well.
DC_Vol writes:
Sounds like Giles is gone. There may not have been enough room for him in the backfield with Oku, Allen and Williams committing this year. Not enought carries to go around may have crossed his mind. Kind of like the situation Hazelton had with the Trojans. As a top back you need to be careful you committ to a school where you are assured playing time. Otherwise, you will waste you talent and your future sitting on the bench. Sounds like he is making the best decision for his future. Time will tell. Now we need to sign some offensive and defensive lineman. Go Vols!!!!
