Defensive tackle Hollins to enroll in January

Jonathan Hollins is officially headed to Tennessee.

The 6-foot-3, 273-pound defensive tackle from College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif., signed a letter of intent with UT on Wednesday.

Hollins was relieved to end the recruiting process.

“I felt like I have a burden released off my chest,” Hollins said. “Now I can just concentrate and handle my business and move on.”

Hollins will enroll at UT in January.

He said he’s anxious to play for UT’s next defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, who will join the Vols at the end of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season.

“I think that’s great,” Hollins said about playing for Kiffin. “He has a lot of experience with coaching and the years he’s put in. It’s a privilege and honor for me to be at the same program as him.”

I would bet you are right on target with your assessment. CLK would take a big QB this year, if he could get one. If not he has to be working on next years class pretty hard.

Lets get a top 15 class this year, and a top 5 class next year.

BIG RECRUITING BUZZ:

QB Pat Devlin is transferring from Penn State and is said to have Tennessee in his top 2 schools of choice. He was the #4 overall QB coming out a few years ago (Scout.com) and played limited duty this past season behind Daryl Clark, throwing 4 TDs to 0 INTs at around 54% completions.

He is said to have outstanding pocket presence and mobility, but only uses it when needed. His drob back and mechanics are near-perfect and his decision making is very good as well.

Sounds like you are on to something. It concerns me though that we are going to burn another year with stephens, crompton, and coleman.
It would be easier to take if we at least had a freshman red-shirt learning in the wings.

Yes, you are right about Jake Heaps, QB out of Washington state who is likely going to end up the #1 QB for 2010.

He is high on Lane Kiffin and the "new" Tennessee. But the main reason for that is because he is a big USC and PAC-10 guy. He probably would end up at USC if they weren't getting Matt Barkley this year. However, the reason he is high on Tennessee is the same reason he is high on Washington. Steve Sarkisian (ex-USC offensive coordinator) is their new head coach.

I'm going to say the chances of him landing at Washington are about 65% and more like 20% for Tennessee (15% other).

It will have alot to do with how both teams look next year and the recruits (especially at WR) that each school gets to commit this year and next.

**READ MY FIRST COMMENT ON THIS STORY ABOUT QB PAT DEVLIN. That is a higher probability right now.

I know that he's spoken with Stokes and Hunter. Thigpen also met with him this past weekend. I believe Shackleford is still solid as well.

I don't know that he's spoken to Askew and I really hope he has! He and Oku are our cream right now.

I'm not sold that Stokes is as solid as the rest of the guys, but I may be mistaken.

Aubrey Phillips decommitted awhile back.

I have some insight on Shackelford. I talked with him about 10 days ago and he was pretty concerned because he had not heard a word from the new regime since their arrival. He was already shaky in his commitment because of the changes and his closeness to Chavis. Ole Miss and Vandy are all over him and he likes both a great deal. LSU is also showing recent interest and, were Chavis to turn up there as some rumors have it, I think he'd be down there instantly.

He played last Saturday in the Ala - Miss All Star Game and was defensive MVP. Great kid, character and grades. I hope they call him soon.

Where is Shackelford from??? Thanks for the info that is great stuff.

Now we know why the Vol plane was in Northern California last week--an assistant coach and a JUCO defensive tackle. I forgot to add to an earlier post yesterday, it's probably a recruiting violation for CLK to talk with players already attending another school, but that doesn't mean that an intermediary, such as a high school coach who knows about a player's discontent, might not suggest that a lay-out year and transfer might work for the player. CLK undoubtedly has talked with the recruits of 2009 he wants to keep. Remember that Je'Ron Stokes attends Mark Jones' father's church, and that Je'Ron committed to Tennessee largely because of that relationship. He might well follow CPF elsewhere, if he gets another gig, but I'm guessing that he'll still want to come to the Hill. Go Vols! SAVol
