Chattanooga passes on Sanders

Kentucky quarterbacks coach Randy Sanders is not a finalist for the head coaching job at Chattanooga, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Sanders, a former University of Tennessee player and assistant coach, said last week that he was interested in the job and had talked with the school about the opening, but athletic director Rick Hart told the newspaper that his search was down to three candidates: UT Martin coach Jason Simpson, Lambuth University coach Hugh Freeze and Richmond defensive coordinator Russ Huesman, who is a Chattanooga graduate.

The newspaper said Hart had met with Georgia running backs coach Tony Ball, a Chattanooga native and a Chattanooga graduate, North Alabama coach Mark Hudspeth and Appalachian State linebackers coach Dale Jones, who played at UT and attended high school in Chattanooga.

I was on earlier and thought the same thing. We have no interest unless she's attending UT or being named the next Tennis coach for us.

That was me with the invite for hiresanders. Guess what? He never showed or called or texted or anything. Imagine that.

It's a long way across that border. I'm in Atlanta, but would be willing to travel up I-75 for a shot at that dude.

Yeah. That sounds like fun. Maybe we could all meet up for the Orange/White game and hiresanders and myself could be the pre-game entertainment. Sound good? TJ, pdhuff, tnbigg, and yourslef could be in charge of "refreshments".

Down to three finalist and Fulmer's not one of them? As a matter of fact, is he a candidate for any coaching job? While at UT, did anybody ever want him? Go Fulmer..just go. Get the heck out of Knoxville!!!

Waldorf writes:

Guy's gotten a bad rep. We've since learned he may not be that bad, Fulmer is just so incompetent as a head coach that no one except Cutcliffe (who is one of the best coordinators out there) can make up for it.

I do hope he gets a head coachign shot some day. The guy from Martin is good, but IMO has a better gig going at Martin than he would have at UTC.

Let it out, bro. If you hold it in you'll wind up like WeLoveTennessee.

WeLove actually won a Nobel Peace Prize before the pent-up emotions finally blew up. Now we're all subject to his/her/its flatulations of the brain on a daily basis here. No one wants that to happen again.

SemperVol writes:

Relevant in the sense that there's a Randy Sanders story and an opportunity for us to chastise his irrelevant banter.

Ah well! Guess you scared him off, ctown...

ctownvol writes:

I see what you're saying. As soon as I read the headline I thought of ol hiresanders too. I just have a hard time putting him and relevant in the same thought process. But that may just be me. I didn't mean to scare him off. I have a feeling he'll show up again when you really don't want him. Like a bad case of gential warts.

I work at Martin and can definitely vouch for Coach Simpson. Since he came here, our players have been much more disciplined on and off the field. They usually show improvement throughout the season and we have been competitive in all of our FCS (IAA) games. We even gave Auburn a run for their money this year. If not for a few silly turnovers, Tuberville might not have made it to the Iron Bowl.

On the surface, UTC might not look very good, but they belong to the Southern Conference (SOCON) which is a step-up from the OVC. At UTC, the coach will have to contend with Appalachian St, Furman, and Wofford rather than E Illinois, E Kentucky, and Murray St.

That being said, I hope we get to keep him for a couple more years and win some playoff games. Then he can go home to Southern Miss to rebuild their program.

The dude has coached in the SEC, compared to the the other chumps on the list its a no brainer. Hire Rander Sanders.......... Rhymes with Fire Randy Sanders. Something we heard a whole hell of alot of the 2005 season. Good Luck Randy

NoogaVol55 writes:

As a Chattanooga native and a former player in the So-Con (Wofford) I can attest that UTC is not a good situation for any coach at the moment. They battle UT, UA, and UGA for fan support. Nobody goes to the games. When local high school teams play there, they draw bigger crowds. The school keeps tossing around the idea of dropping the program all together. Not to mention that they play in the Southern Conference, which is comparable to the SEC on the I-AA level. I almost feel bad for them b/c they should be able to succeed. Their stadium is top notch for a I-AA program, they are 2 1/2 hrs away from 4 major cities so you would think recruiting wouldn't be an issue. Maybe the right coach could change things, but they have been trying for years to breath life into the program. I wish them the best...but I don't see it happening.

Say you don't mean it.
I remember when Chattanooga beat UT. We won some under Morrison & Oliver, but that was a while ago. Don't know what happened to the program, but we do have a player in the NFL. (OK, he's a jerk) I've been gone a long time, but would like to watch some good games when I retire & move back next year (can't go to Knoxville every weekend)

Lol! You know a coach is of extreme high regard when UT Chattanooga takes a pass on them. What an insult. Lol, lol. Fulmer's hand picked OC for years after Cutcliff departed only to see the offense production go down year after year till Fulmer was forced to push him out.

Fulmer was fired. It's time to move on with the rest of us. It won't be long before you're moniker is changed to firekiffen.

It would be nice if you would let us know where you work so we can critique your job performance.
