South Carolina's Cook ineligible for bowl game

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina safety Emanuel Cook has been declared academically ineligible and will not play in the Outback Bowl against Iowa.

Coach Steve Spurrier said that the junior from Riviera Beach, Fla., failed to pass the minimum six hours required by the NCAA to be eligible for a bowl game.

Cook has led South Carolina in tackles for the past two years, with 92 tackles last season and 87 this year.

He was named to the 2008 Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference second team.

Coaches say they expect Cook to declare for the NFL draft and forego his senior year at South Carolina.

The SC fans are all tore up about this...I couldn't be happier. I think is sucks that a team with 5 losses makes a New Year Day bowl....and so it goes.

He should as you won't find a classier kid in the country!!! Yes, he can also play football!

Must be nice to have your own private cook to travel with the team.

Clearly his mind is on the NFL. Not a big deal however as he'll make more in his first contract than most do in their entire lifetime.

If you cannot pass two classes in a semester, you may want to consider your options.

Man, how is the team going to eat if the Cook can't go?

I agree Nooga...Unfortunately, I don't think all of the slots could've been filled had they not taken 5 and 6 loss teams. They ran into that problem several years back when a 5-6 team went to the New Orleans bowl...I want to say it was N. Texas St but I could be wr...wro...boy this is tough...wrong!!!! LOL!

Now THAT'S funny! I needed that.

Why would he take such an academic load of more than 6 hours?

Going to school is the same as drink has always been the curse of the drinking class.

Did he pee in the chili or what?

Down here In SC, the papers write a bit more in-depth about this. They have stated that he quit going to class last semester, and failed to pass the necessary 6 hours to stay eligible. Spurrier made the statement that Cook "tossed it in." He has also had several other players "toss it in", like their QB Beecher, who is supposed to be a stud. Spurrier didn't play him in the Clemson game because he didn't want to play. He didn't play the hippie (Garcia) because he's a tard. So he let Smelley stay out there and get flushed (hee-hee). How many times have you ever heard of this out of Spurrier? Sounds to me like he sees what we've all seen the whole time: that he's a washed-up has been and his football team is cursed, like all the ones before them. They give up, he gives up, and Augusta National is looking sweeter every day. GO VOLS AND WHOEVER PLAYS CAROLINA!!!

In other news, the busboy and two waitresses will be available for play.

It always amazes me that a kid doesn't have enough interest in school to pass six hours (2 courses). In fact, two D's would have made him eligible. I know it's a fact of life in college athletics, but it still doesn't make it any easier to understand.

Exactly Alph. I specialized in D's.
