DURHAM, N.C. — Duke has given David Cutcliffe a two-year contract extension.
The Blue Devils on Sunday said they extended Cutcliffe’s contract through 2015. Terms were not released, as is customary at the private school.
Athletic director Kevin White called the former Tennessee offensive coordinator “an elite player within the entire college football coaching community.”
By going 4-8 this season, Duke matched its win total from 2004-07. The Blue Devils started 3-1 and pushed their mark to 4-3 with a win at Vanderbilt, but ended the season with five straight losses in November.

Well earned.

So has Fulmer gotten a head coaching job yet? I mean, it's not every day coaches with 150 wins are on the market. I figure every opening so far has begged and pleaded with him to take their job, but he's just not been happy with any of their situations.
On a side note, Fulmer's record with Cut - 81-19
Fulmer's record without Cut - 67-32
Not sure which side the 4-0 record in 92 goes in.
Looks like we rewarded the wrong coach in 2007.

Oops, make that 67-33 without Cut. I forgot that 02 debacle in the Peach Bowl against Maryland when they got beat 30-3. Pretty amazing considering they were preseason #4 in the country.

Cutcliff was a good coach and hope he does well at Duke.
Go Vols!

It looks as if Duke has pulled off their version of the Hamilton extension for Fulmer. Both being way off target and making ridiculous commitments for coaches going nowhere. Duke may be proud of their four wins by Cut, but that hardly justifies a two year extension, when they are already obligated through 2013. Hopefully, Duke has inserted contract language that will mitigate their payout when Duke reverts to its old losing ways, and Cut gets the boot. Spurrier is really the only recent coach to have any success at Duke, and he used it as a stepping stone.

There is no proof that anyone has even been interested in Fulmer much less interview him. Most people realize he has let the game pass him by. As for Duke this was a successful year.

Any staff with David Cutcliffe would be a better one.
I have always wondered how much influence Cutcliffe had on Brady Quinn at ND. He improved dramatically after the limited amount of time Cut worked with him.
I think both he and Fulmer are good head coaches. The evidence is when they are together as a team they are great.
I believe they have complimentary talents.
Let's see how far he takes the Duke program and if Fulmer decides to coach again and someone hires him how well he does.
GoVols!

I'm glad for Coach Cutcliff ..he set about to completely change the football culture at Duke , did some pretty smart things too....making demands of his people and setting standards for effort are two of them....

And you know Duke is going to revert to losing How? And Cut is going to be fired How? It's too bad your glass is always half full. Kinda like your nether regions, I suspect.

Cutcliffe will take Duke to a 7-8 win seasons in the next two years. Wait and see. Fulmer was Majors OC when Majors stunk it up. Cutcliffe was Fulmer's OC during his decade of dominance. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this stuff it out....

UT never had a losing record when Phillip Fulmer was OC. In fact, the years that Fulmer was OC under Majors were some of the most productive seasons offensively in school history. Two or three times when Fulmer was OC, the Vols set school records for total offense.
I don't understand why some people still feel a need to continually bash Phillip Fulmer. Maybe the game had passed him by, and it might seem that way. But nobody really knows to for sure. A few years ago folks were saying the game had passed Paterno by and looked what he has done the last few years.
I don't know whether Phillip Fulmer will coach again or not. He sure doesn't need the money, or the headaches.
I just know the man has done more for the University of Tennessee than most of us ever will, and those that constantly bash him need to grow up. Than man's gone.

Nobody knows for sure? Are you Rip Van Winkle? Ever take note of current events, as far as UT football is concerned? And Paterno? Paterno is merely a figurehead, doing no coaching, and trying to outlast Bobby Bowden for the title of winningest D1 fb coach. Paterno has been finished for the last several years, just occupying sideline and pressbox space.

And that is why Cut' went to Duke. NO PRESSURE, and a private school does not have to tell anything..... If he wins six games next year, they will be on the verge of renaming the stadium.
