Lady Vol signee Dupree injured in game

It wasn’t the kind of holiday tournament Tennessee signee Faith Dupree or her coach, Webb’s Shelley Collier, envisioned.

Dupree took a flying elbow in a game against Archbishop Wood, a Pennsylvania school, on Sunday night in the Kroger Classic at Pickerington, Ohio. The deep cut above her eye required 17 stitches to close, took Dupree out of the tournament and infuriated Collier.

“That is the most frustrated I have ever been at a game,” Collier said. “The game was out of control pretty much from the start. I tried to get the officials’ attention (to settle things down), but the next trip down the floor it happened.

“It was really a shame. They put on a first class tournament there. A lot of big-name players have played in it and Faith was really looking forward to it.

"I was proud of my team for maintaining its composure."

Without their leading scorer, the Lady Spartans lost 64-47 against Archbishop Wood. They came back to win an overtime game Monday 53-46 over Anthony Wayne.

Collier said Dupree might not be able to play at Harpeth Hall on Saturday, but should be in the lineup against Oliver Springs on Tuesday.

yeavols, this is REALLY OLD NEWS!!!!! You have been on VolChat too much. There is no need to attempt to stir up something that has already been settled by the NCAA.

Oh, by the way, our Baby Lady Vols beat Gonzaga, 77-58. We had four players in double figures, Bjorklund-14, Brewer-14, Stricklen-12, and Baugh-12. Baugh also had 15 rebounds in 25 minutes.

It was a good game for our Baby Lady VOls. Now, it is onto Rutgers this Saturday on national TV.

GO BABY LADY VOLS---OUR FUTURE CHAMPIONS!!!

I've seen more games like that than I can count. Last summer, my daughter kept getting hammered by this snotty little team in an AAU tourney. You could hear their coach going on about 'fouling her hard' during timeouts.

So, yeah, it's the end of the game, my daughter pulls down a rebound, and a player literally body slams her, bruising her elbow and hip, slamming her head on the floor. is down for maybe 5 minutes. The off official called the foul, not the one under the basket. This coach has this big smirk, like "I've put her out of this tournament".

Anyway, she recovers enough to make the free throws and her team wins.

As a dad, you are thinking 3 things:
-I wish this were a fair world, so I could beat the shot out of the coach and not go to trial
-I want to treat the official the same way my daughter is getting treated
-What a shame to see a possible D1 player possibly lose her health/career in some bozo tournament becasue of a dick ocach and a dick ref.

Sorry for the ramble, I don't have time to clean up my 'short story'.

It must have been one heck of a hit to take 17 stitches! When she gets to UT she will definitely have a scar to impress the others with.

Heal quick!! Go Lady Vols - Present and Future!!!

mparker, I will back you up anytime you want to engage in correcting these types of "situations." As a father of a fine female point guard who suffered her share of "knock her out of the game" shots and a former girls basketball coach, I have lived those horrible moments.

If we would provide better examples of conduct, parenting, and coaching, our kids would learn better habits and styles of play. Oh, well, we can always dream. Remember, I'll be with you, just let me know.

thanks...
the bad part?? you respect refs who take control and call a gain evenly. you see SO MANY who do great jobs...you don't even know they are there, they just flow with the game.
As for coaches and parents?? we all fail at some point or another. Usually, it is an 'escalating' situation.

The ones who worry you are the parents or coaches who fry night in and night out.

AAU ball is necessary, but man oh man, you do take your risks.
