Kevin VanDerzee, Tennessee’s director of high school relations, is leaving to become the director of football operations at Syracuse, a source close to the situation told the News Sentinel.
VanDerzee is widely credited with helping UT get off to a fast start in recruiting its 2009 class. The Vols were close to 20 commitments late last summer before poor on-field play and a coaching change took its toll.
VanDerzee came to UT a year ago from Richmond along with assistant coaches Dave Clawson and Lattrell Scott. He replaced Gerald Harrison, who left UT for Duke following the 2007 season.
VanDerzee, who graduated from State University of New York at Cortland, was the director of football operations for two seasons at Richmond.

How's that? Was Fulmer letting him close on the recruits? Which high schools did he have good relations with? Any in Tennessee? And what exactly does the Director of High School Relations do?

How much does this position pay and how can I apply? Which other coach just went to Syracuse? Didn't part of the old staff just go there?

One of the two guys Cable fired after Clegg quit at Oakland will be taking this job. Either the 2nd of Reaves family or the other one's name I can't remember. Wait it should be nameless instead of Reaves, because Director of FB Operations is who Big Kif and both Reaves will report to, to get around that pesky little Nepotism Policy.

Query: If Vanderwhathisname is "widely" credited with the fast start in the 2009 class and I read KNS every day all year why have I never read any stories about him? Riddle me that Bat-idiot.

Didn't we already hire the Director of Football operations? Whoever takes this job needs to focus on repairing relations with Tennessee high schools as job one.

My best guess is that he went with Adkins.
If he's tight with Adkins, then good riddance.
