So with Chaney coaching the O-line...I suppose Cregg will take the D-line?
cainclifton23 writes:
Eh, This is reported by an LSU site.
You know, kinda like how we tabbed Butch Davis then Brian Kelly.
So I say hes not going to LSU until He officialy Chooses LSU.
OakyVol09 writes:
The title is misleading. Nothing in that article makes it sound like he is any closer to going to LSU than he is to UT. I hope his relationship w/ LK wins out. Plus here he has the chance to be the D-coordinator in waiting.
Bloodrunzorange writes:
If CLK wanted him bad enough, he would be a VOL! Don't worry! Remember, CMK is coming to town! Go Vols and Support CLK!
cainclifton23 writes:
Good Point.
Why wouldnt he want to learn under Monte Kiffin for a few years. then Become a better DC when he takes over.
Bruce_Pearl_Fan writes:
If this is true, then DO'OH!
Mike Detillier was on Tony B at noon and was reporting this. They're offering him over $600K (more than Chavis) and the title of associate head coach, recruiting coordinator and d-line coach. Big hit for CLK.
Go Vols!
BigMikeUT writes:
I can't imagine that Coach O getting paid more than him would sit well with Chavis, but whatever. I hope this isn't true, but Orgeron is a Louisiana guy anyways, so I'm sure that is a big factor in his decision. I was hoping he'd end up at UT, but its not the end of the world if he doesn't.
shipperman#280095 writes:
He will not be coming to UT. I have said that early on. Too much baggage there to take a chance on
cainclifton23 writes:
Oh yea. My bad. I forgot you were best friends with Lane. and in the Athletic Dep.
You know everyone who is coming and not coming.
Please acceot my apology.

Les Miles has down year from expectations and he is making major changes and I think the failure to make changes led to the downfall of Fulmer. Then we must ask, was all this cash available for Fulmer to hire better assistants, or was Fulmer just ranking it all in for himself.
Would be great for Vols if Oregron were to join them, for his recruiting skills cannot be overlooked, but 700,000 for a coach other than A Coordinator is big bucks, evidently not a problem for LSU...
dshawn13#224876 writes:
Two player that he recruited at ole miss say that he forked over the cash, we may be better off with out him.

Agree- an eyebrow raiser is "Meat Market", book by Bruce Feldman. ESPN books.
Orgeron's 4-a-morning Red Bull wanderings thru Ole Miss's recruiting.

agree with your post, but need to edit. . .stike the word "founding" at the end. . .

I believe I was the only one who said, and stuck to my guns from the beginning that Kiffin would be our next coach. I also said at that time that the UT admin did not want coach O. Think what you want.
BigMikeUT writes:
What makes you say that DC? I know that Orgeron was a huge flop as a head coach at Ole Miss, has a sketchy personal history, and has been rumored to be involved in some shady recruiting practices, but the guy can flat out coach a D-Line and knows how to pull in recruits. As long as we weren't making him HC or DC, I thought that this would be a good hire. I'm just curious as to why you think he would hurt us so bad? Recruiting violations?
BigMikeUT writes:
Nevermind, you just answered this question in another thread...haha.
BigMikeUT writes:
Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. I'm also not sure that a "stud recruiter" is really necessary for us. After all, that's what Lane Kiffin is supposed to be.
pms151 writes:
You are on target. Fulmer would have never given up those kinda bucks to bring in guys that could threaten his authority. Too bad.
LSU is a good fit for Orgeron. He is used to recruiting the swamp rats out of the MS Delta and the bayous of LA and TX. Plus I doubt most Tennessee fans would be able to communicate with him due to translation difficulties. Chief won't give a damn about the salary difference.
HtownVol writes:
Heck, it seems like every1 we hired so far except MK has been a recruiting coordinator, Right? We have enough recruiters. Now focus on the best coaches we can get. I dont understand why the FLA fan said O would make us bad. Ive read all over he is a great d-line coach. Guess he was just talking out his arss
TommyJack writes:
I'll confirm that for the Shipperman.
annemarie writes:
You sure can be an AZZ sometimes!!
gbeejr#1354500 writes:
Ignorance is bliss. You anti-Orgeron people have no idea of what you are talking about. ZERO! What he did down here with Ole Miss was incredible. It's basically all his recruits that beat FL and LSU on their turf and came very close to doing same with AL. And now they play #7 team in the Cotton Bowl. Compare that to what we did this past year! Most of us Vol fans (and I am all vol down here) don't realize how difficult it is to recruit the black athlete and his family to Ole Miss. All things considered, it's tougher to recruit here than any other SEC school, with some argument from Vandy. The stigma of the old south is often reminded to the black athlete and his family by recruiters from competing programs. Tuberville said this very thing when he coached the Rebs. Heck, the Rebels still play Dixie as much as we play Rocky Top! Orgeron had little to work with down here and proved to be a tremendous recruiter at Ole Miss, but he would be lights out at Tennessee. I think too that he is a fine defensive coach as well. We need him-GO VOLS!
annemarie writes:
And I'll second that confirmation. I hardly ever post, but I am an AVID reader - especially where Ship & Savage are concerned.
invisiblekid writes:
And they can probably be had for less than 600,000 a year.
shipperman#280095 writes:
Thank you. I do not name my sources, because i promised not to. But i keep up with what is happening at UT faithfully
invisiblekid writes:
Think he and Chavis will share chest bumps?
annemarie writes:
Obviously. As many times as you have been on target, I never doubted it for a second. I really look forward to you (& Savage, who will be back soon, I hope) & your input. Don't care who your sources are - you're right on!

This story has morphed...it's now "could be", "might", and "expected" whereas yesterday reported in the Shreevport times it was "Confirmed" and a "done deal". Hey, I don't care if he stays or goes but this shoddy journalism is a little over the top and annoying. I guess we won't know until Friday when he himself makes the announcement. I am sure a lot of factors play into his decision and it must be gruelling to say the least. Anyway GO KIFFIN!! Bring home the recruits and staff.
jeremyinitalia writes:
tigerdroppings.com says that UT offered a better package to coach "O", including higher base pay and more responsibility. Supposedly both Kiffens visited him in person and convinced him that KnoxVegas was a better option. Hopefully it's "welcome aboard Mr. Recruiter"
