Antioch's McAdoo picks North Carolina

Michael McAdoo, the 6-foot-7, 220-pound defensive end from Antioch High, committed to North Carolina on Thursday, according to Antioch coach Mike Woodward.

UT never seemed to get seriously involved with McAdoo, who only took official visits to North Carolina and Kentucky.

“I just felt more comfortable with their coaches and a couple of their players,” McAdoo told the Tennessean about the Tar Heels.

McAdoo cited early playing time and relationships with former Pearl-Cohn receiver Rashad Mason and athlete Brian Gupton as reasons he picked the Tar Heels. Mason and Gupton signed with North Carolina a year ago with new coach Butch Davis.

“It was kind of hard because I had wanted to stay in the SEC, but I had to pick what school I could see myself playing at the next four to five years,” McAdoo said.

McAdoo was a Class 5A Mr. Football Lineman finalist as a senior, recording 48 tackles, 19 for a loss, including six sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception. He also played tight end.

In other recruiting news:

n Alabama added Glenn Harbin of McGill-Toolen High in Mobile, Ala. to its list of commitments. Harbin is rated as the nation’s 17th-best strongside defensive end by Rivals.com. The 6-6, 250-pound Harbin had 127 tackles and 15 sacks as a junior and senior.

n Florida pulled one of the top players out of Alabama on Wednesday when Hoover Spain High defensive end/outside linebacker William Green committed to the Gators.
