Burnette offered by Buffalo, MTSU

Buffalo and Middle Tennessee State have offered Maryville High School senior quarterback Brent Burnette.

Farragut running back Andre Sterling is taking his official visit to Ole Miss this weekend.

Catholic defensive back Jeffrey Faris has decided to be a preferred walk-on at Duke University.

Catholic linebackers Dustin Tait and Garrett Trusler will sign next week with Buffalo and Gardner-Webb, respectively.

Something tells me we will end up regretting not going after Andre Sterling. Hope I'm wrong.

Who's Andre Sterling? Sounds like a fiction writer I used to read in high school.

We did not need Sterling. We already have Poole. I'm holding out hope we land Davis this weekend. Sterling did several things well, just not great. He seemed like an MTSU or Western Kentucky type kid to me. just my opinion.

I'll be real honest with you guys. I've seen Sterling on a few occasions, against some stout defenses. His running style reminds me so much of former Alabama running back, Shawn Alexander. I know those are some pretty big shoes to fill in the SEC.
He seems to lack blazing break-away speed, but few catch him from behind once he gets going. He's strong and powerful. He doesn't waste a lot of time trying to make shifty moves in the backfield, although he has a low center of gravity. He usually makes one or two deliberate looking changes in direction and bursts through the line. He doesn't wow me with any one aspect of the game, but stands out nonetheless.
I swear, each time I've seen him, I keep being reminded of Alexander's style. I certainly am not trying to levy extremely high expectations on the kid. However, I do have high hopes for him. I look forward to seeing him on Saturdays in a year or two.

I'm sure the UT coaches have evaluated Andre Sterling as well as Enrique Davis and as you can see they are sold on Davis.

If Sterling were as good as many suggest, he would be high on UT's board. The fact that he isnt shows that they arent too impressed. UT isnt going to let any in-state recruits go unless, like Barret Jones and Chris Jordan, they have out-of-state ties and arent even going to consider UT. Jones' father graduated from Bama and Jordan had recently moved to Tennessee. The only real prospect that they missed out on was Gavin Hardin from Jackson, but Ole Miss tries their dangdest to recruit West Tennessee. Sad, but he's from the same school that Al Wilson is from. I heard about Hardin when I was a senior playing football in high school and he was in the 8th grade.

Sterling is good.

He's not a SEC back.

Since only Buffalo and MTSU offered, he's not gonna become one, either.

UT shouldn't offer Sterling, however he can still help some in-state schools like Vandy or Middle. Jennnings from Vandy will be the feature back at Vandy giving Andre not only some East Tenn mentoring for a year, but a true opportunity to at least make up for local 5A backs who haven't produced lately on the D1 level (Shawn Bohanon).
Burnette on the other hand will surprise some people down the road. Yes I am a homer on this one, but having D1 experience myself and knowing what it takes to compete, this kid has IT. He's not real mobile, but he's got a gun, never lost (WTH!!!), and GQ knows how to coach 'em up, TRUST ME... Name a coach in the last decade (98-08) who has produced more D1 prospects at quarterback (3) w/ combined state titles (8). The first was beaten out by a guy startin' in the 08 AFC championship game, the 2nd a refugee of Spurrier, and now the 3rd will get his shot in about 2-3 years and murder it... watch!!!
Both of these guys will contribute, if not start down the road on the D1 level, but UT really doesn't need them now or later. If they stay in-state and star in the Mid State, you never know... they could both go in the draft like some others we missed out on and then what will UT/PF say???

It's not an exact science, that's for sure. You do your best to evaluate them, then don't look back.
