UT's Candace Parker dunks the ball during the second half the game against Kentucky Sunday. Parker scored 20 points and lead the Lady Vols defeat of Kentucky at Thompson-Boling Arena Sunday 79-51.

Tennessee's Candace Parker made her seventh career dunk and first of the season Sunday against Kentucky.

The 6-foot-4 Parker chased the ball after Chante Bowman lost control of it at midcourt. She gained control at the baseline, turned around and dunked with 8:08 left in the game.

The No. 2 Lady Vols won 79-51.

Parker dunked last season against Tennessee rival Connecticut, one of four last season. She also dunked twice in her freshman season against Army in the NCAA tournament.

LSU All-American Sylvia Fowles is the only other women's college player to dunk this season. Only six women have dunked in a college game.

Slow start but a great finish!
We've got to get out of the sloppy starts and start putting teams away like we're suposed to.
GREAT GAME,LADIES!

Pat and the Lady Vols, what can be said. Raise the bar on up with a second NC.

YAWNNNNN...if it was like the other six, it was more like a finger roll and rim grab.

Who really cares if Candace Parker or any other girl for that matter, dunks a basketball. What does it add to the game? Just a chance for one player to showboat. What kind of teamwork is that? Just another game in Thompson Boling with questionable calls. Believe it or not--not everybody in Tennessee are Lady Vols Fans. Some of us would like to see something different in the the SEC and women's basketball in general.Good Luck UCONN.

Well you go slop the hogs and we'll pull for the number 1 Lady's BB program in the US.

Since you dislike the Vols so much, you should stay off of their fan site. And if you want to see someone else in the tournament, then your pathetic piglets should win a game against them say maybe once every five years.

Not to hard to dunk a nerf ball if you are 6'7.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Posted by gate12 on February 3, 2008 at 10:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

It's not a real dunk unless at least your wrist is above the rim.

Posted by King53 on February 3, 2008 at 11:07 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I wonder if she had missed the dunk, if Mickey Dearstone would call her out on his radio show like he did JaJaun Smith???? I highly doubt it. What a 2 faced punk!

Posted by utmdm on February 3, 2008 at 11:07 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Just a poll but how many of you nerds can even dunk a nerf ball?

It is a news worthy sporting event because it involves a female athlete and the dunk is not that common in the female area.

Let's see. The newscasters call it a dunk. Even ESPN which despises to advertise the Vols calls it a dunk. So should we go with their opinion or you non-vol biased non-experts? Hmmm, real tough choice there! Nope! No choice at all you nuts. LMAO.

Posted by utmdm on February 3, 2008 at 11:11 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If she had missed she should be called out as any other athlete would have been.

You know this was not even a running dunk, no momentum, almost flat footed.

What kind of little bitty brains and things does it take to get on this fan site and berate the most prominent women's college basketball program in the history of the game? If the posters have such distain for the LVs, why on earth do they hide behind their little bitty computer screens and sneak in here all the time cowardly bashing our team?

YOU GO GIRL !!! (you nay sayers can just go away)

Posted by tenn32rebel on February 4, 2008 at 1:46 a.m. (Suggest removal)

The dunk looked good. The only drawback was her walking for 4-5 steps along the baseline before she went up and slammed it! Oh well, it's about time the LVs got the benefit of the doubt on ONE call.

Auguste's play was excellent! No turnovers!!! When was the last time she did that! Now, we need to get steady play out of Angie. Baugh was tough on the boards!!!

to gate12:
When was the last time you dunked a basketball? The hand & wrist have to get above the rim or the ball can't go in the cylinder!!! One-hand dunks are really tough because you have to control the ball with one hand going up, throwing the ball down through the hoop, and keeping your hand out of the net!!!

When I played boys high school BB in Tennessee from 1969-73, it was illegal to dunk, even during warmups. If I wanted to dunk in practice, I had to use canned stick'em on my hands (yes, stick'em was legal back then!).

Candace can go higher but controlling the ball is the key. Cut the ladies some slack because they are doing a fine job!

Last time I checked, the Women Play with a Composite Leather Basketball just like the Men do. It is a little smaller, but still the same material. And Parker is not 6'7.

Most of the people that talk crap about her dunking will be those who only wish that they could dunk on a goal other than their kids play school goal.

Hey Slop. If everyone wants to see something different, then why dont they rise up and do something about it? Obviously plenty of folks want to see the Lady Vol's because they are selling out every place they are going to. I believe their was a nice article on ESPN.com a while back to back this up. I am really sorry that Tennessee is 17-1 all-time against the Pork.

I am not railing against the LV's. All I am saying is that Dearstone was saying JaJaun was showboating with his play, but he will not say Candice was. Now, what's fair is fair. If a woman is dunking in a game, I would say that is a little showboating, just like a guy trying a pass off the backboard for a dunk is showing off. HMMMM? What say you??

Angie was little off, but she will rebound and get better. Parkers dunk--YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!
Dunk all you want!!

LOVE CP3 SHE IS THE BEST. GREAT DUNK

Posted by juicetke on February 4, 2008 at 10:08 a.m. (Suggest removal)

None of her dunks have even come close to the one Michelle Snow did at Vanderbilt. Two handed hanging on the rim, now that is impressive!

Do they have the kiss cam at the baby blue games?

Posted by VolBall on February 5, 2008 at 9:10 a.m. (Suggest removal)

SEND IT HOME! GET YOU SOME!!!! UHHHHH!!
STUFF-ARINO! IN YO MUG!!! Lift-off, rim-rocker...or something like that...

Posted by jevolball7 on February 7, 2008 at 3:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)

DUNK??? It's really a few fingers slightly above the rim,and she"tries" to force it downward.

Posted by jevolball7 on February 7, 2008 at 3:36 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Oh,I forgot. Dearstone is the biggest pile of agenda promoting, egotistical, piece of trash,on these airways. Will someone start a campaign to get him off the talk shows. If anyone heard what he said about the real VOLS earlier this week you would be maddddddd. A DUNK.....GIVE ME A BREAK!
