Jerrell Harris has reportedly eliminated Tennessee from consideration.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Gadsden City High School in Gadsden, Ala. is now only considering Alabama, Clemson, Auburn and Southern Cal, according to the Birmingham News.

That report comes just a day after Gadsden City High School football coach/recruiting coordinator Ali Smith said Harris was still considering UT after a very favorable visit to Knoxville last weekend.

This recruiting season keeps getting worse and worse. What is going on?

The only thing that is surprising, is how in the heck Clemson is doing such a good job this recruiting season.

vol4jesus writes:

Why are you all so interested in tops? Ewe always talk about spinning. Are you dizzy? Imbalanced? Maybe ewe can give us your spin of the day. Apparently we got beat out, but next year with new staff in place I think we will rebound. That is ,if this class maintains its current flavor we wil need to rebound.

GoVol writes:

Fulmer's recruiting tactics simply are not effective anymore. This along with Chavis not being a very good recruiter and Fulmer's inability to coach well at this level anymore....all adds up to a few tough years ahead. '09 season will be horrible!!!

All in all it's just another brick in the wall.

Here is where Fulmer is today:

oh well- another one gone.

I guess you expected this to happen- right SPHS??

TOp 15 class? Do you still want to criticize my source and say I am being negative that your inside information tells you we will be okay with 4 huge announcemnts.

Most think the running back, Davis, will not sign with the Vols as well that He will go to auburn or Ole Miss.

vol4jesus, for the sake of everyone on here, please take off the orange colored glasses and quit drinking the kool-aid. People like you can't see the forest for the trees. You always want to talk about next year as the excuse for everything. I brought up spin because I want to see what catchy phrase CPF will come up with this time....we have seen the perfect storm and worked like heck since by staying the course..What next?

vol1994 writes:

work like heck to get better.

stay the course!!

Another recruit snubs UT and moves on to Alabama or Auburn probably. I thought this was one of the big strengths of ole Phil.

chrisw2967 writes:

looks like to me since were not getting those 4 & 5* that Fulmer and chavis will actually have to work and coach harder this fall.
I really dont read too much into those 4 & 5* cause we have seen first hand that some of them dont pan out and in my opinion if you have good coaches then you can coach these 2 & 3* players to all americans. Its up to Fulmer and the rest of the coaching staff on how good these players will or can be not because they have 4* behind their name.

Get used to it folks. This is what February is like at basketball schools.

Harris is just trying to get the other schools off his back. He's throwing them off by saying his double-secret true choice is no longer an option. Smart guy. Please let this be true........

Pullingguard writes:

P. Fulmer addresses the media Wednesday late PM and says... We recruited a group of young men who fill needs on the football team.. We did not get everyone we wanted but we got the players whom we feel will develope into and play an important part in the success of this program. We are proud of this class and these young men and look forward to their getting situated at Tennessee and become an important part of the football team. Want to thank our coaching staff for job well done and to John Chavis for his leadership in this recruiting process. We are looking forward to spring practice and the upcoming season. Thank You...

chrisw2967 writes:

sjt: If 08 and 09 ARE horrible then you can call this past year an aberration or attribute it to Cutcliffe and Trooper... but how about we let things happen before we declare what they "will be". OK?

so what your saying it wont have anything to do with Fulmer ? just Cut/Trooper. If thats the case and its because Cut/Trooper then looks like to me that Hamilton let the wrong coaches leave then, if this has that much of an impact on whats really going on with recruiting.

You ever thought about maybe players dont want to come to Tenn and play Fulmers brand of football ?
you dont think these players also just might see the decline this program has taken and dont want to be apart of it ?

Hunter writes:

Harris said (through a coach) that his visit was "like, a 12." My bet? Another typo by KNS staff - he really rate it a 1.2 on a scale of 1-10.

Stay the course. How do you write this recruiting season on a chart?

BrakTalk writes:

"I can't wait to see how CPF spins this mess tomorrow night."

Isn't recruiting just a bunch of spin to begin with? So what good does it do to obligate a coach to explain consequences in recruiting that can hardly even be imagined much less speculated?

These kids have a will of their own...and Fulmer is gonna strike out with people if Tennessee doesn't get everyone it wants?

The whole "wanting" of these kids based on performance on the high school field and it's wildly oscillating variables of performance and other "quantitative" measures, I would say, needs to be tempered a bit and expectations brought back to earth.

Another way of putting...don't let it ruin your day.

we'll be fine chicken littles. we have alot of boomerangers who will buoy the talent level like brandon warren, d. morley, s. raines and gerald williams to name a few. we also have straight balla's like faison who, at 26, can run a 4.3 40yd dash with a bac of .11. we get holbert back from injury and probably some other guys i can't think of. i also like the fact a bartholemew will be around to block for four years.

what's it with some of you guys. over the past fifteen years, the typical recruiting year for U.T. has been superb by anyone's standards. o.k., so this one is a bust. doesn't all those years of great recruiting get phil a one year pass? what phil has stockpiled in knoxville will get him past this hiccup, but please, phil, don't do it again soon!

jdcvols#230433 writes:

Braktalk, Recruiting is bunch of spin. I just found it interesting that CPF chose to "spin" the 2005 season and since used some interesting phrases. My point was really not about the spin but will CPF really say. If the recruiting does not rebound tomorrow, then it will ruin my day.

getridoffoolmer writes:

arkyvol,
It wouldnt be that bad except every year we have a top 5 class and every year we seem to lose oooo 4 or 5 a year! If he cant win with big time talent whats he going to do with NO talent?

ummm no i never said that i said that the coaching has fallen off! yesterday as a matter of fact and even at that hes lost at least 3 the past 4 years i believe! thats NOT good with the talent that this university has! With the money that is put into the football program we as fans should expect more than that is it to hard to ask for a conference championship and a bcs bid at least 1 time every 5 years or so? NO its not!

i understand. i thought i would have more street cred with some of y'all since florida was not involved with this player.

but, hey, no one trusted luginbill either and he's a paid professional. so, i don't feel so bad.

The Bama News reported this. Why are we all acting like this is gospel from the word of God? How many "recruiting experts" w/ their "inside sources" constantly get wrong where a recruit is headed? True, we may not land him, but I would like to hear it from a more credible source than Saban's Daily.

GerryOP writes:

ctown: Gotcha, the movie. I was thinking more of Fulmer going there and getting "anything he wants." Like, maybe, a few 330# DLs and a couple of DEs.

pullingguard: Right on! And don't forget "I really enjoyed the recruiting this year and talking and discussing football with all of these fine young men and their families. A really exceptional group of candidates."
