South Carolina suspends Ellis for 3 games

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis will miss the first three games of next season for violating university policy.

Spurrier would not say what policy Ellis violated.

Ellis, a 6-foot-5, 327-pound rising sophomore from West Palm Beach, Fla., saw action in 11 games last season. He finished with 11 tackles, including three behind the line of scrimmage.

Spurrier also said that starting tailback Mike Davis could sit out games for breaking the athletic department’s attendance policy, although that suspension was not “set in stone.”

Twin brothers, Jordin and Dustin Lindsey, are not yet academically eligible for next season, said Spurrier, who hopes they can pass their classes to play their fifth and final seasons.

Jordin Lindsey, a defensive end, missed all of last year because of academic issues. Dustin Lindsey, a linebacker, was declared academically ineligible for the 2006 season, but reapplied for admission and worked mostly with the scout team during a redshirt year.

In December, Jordin Lindsey was stabbed while walking with his brother in a restaurant area near campus.

Lindsey suffered a 4-inch laceration to the left side of his neck and spent a night in the hospital before he was released, authorities said.
