Williams runs fastest time in 200 this year
What a day for Tennessee senior Rubin Williams.
The world has a new fastest time in the 200-meter dash this year as Williams broke a meet record at the eighth annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City on Saturday.
Williams was timed in 20.66 seconds to break the previous meet record of 20.67 run in 2005 by six-time NCAA champion Xavier Carter of LSU. UT's Evander Wells finished fourth (21.35).
'I felt like I was going to have a pretty good race from the start,' Williams said. 'I don't go into meets trying to break records; I just go out and leave it all on the track.'
Former Karns High School standout Yarrick Kincaid was ninth in the 800 with a season-best run of 1:51.50. Richard Wooten was sixth in the weight throw with a personal-record 62-11 1/2. Josheph Berry finished seventh in the pole vault with a season-best 16-6 3/4.
Women's Track: Annie Alexander, Phoebe Wright and Cleo Tyson finished the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in style.
Alexander had the best shot put by a Lady Vol in 26 years with a throw of 55-7 3/4. Her effort was second-best in the NCAA this season.
Wright, a sophomore from Red Bank, won the 800 with a career-best 2:07.19, sixth-best in the nation. UT's Kimarra McDonald was third (2:09.46).
Tyson finished second in the invitational 200 with a season-best 23.75. UT's Lynne Layne was fourth and Jeneba Murphy sixth.
