Men's tennis team improves to 8-0
The 16th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team defeated Kentucky 6-1 Monday afternoon in Lexington, Ky., to remain unbeaten at 8-0.
"This was a good win," coach Sam Winterbotham said. "It was a good, challenging road trip for the guys and when we scheduled it that is what we wanted. We started out with a good win on Friday and then finished with a great win today.
The Vols won the doubles point for the eighth time in as many matches. Kaden Hensel and J.P. Smith defeated Kentucky's 21st-ranked duo of Bruno Agostinelli and Brad Cox 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Boris Conkic and Davey Sandgren clinched the point with an 8-5 win over Marcus Sundh and Will Ward at No. 2 doubles.
Smith, a freshman, gave Tennessee a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Ward at No. 2 singles.
Other singles winners were Hensel at No. 1, Conkic at No. 3, Sandgren at No. 4 and Chris Racz at No. 6.
The Vols return to action Saturday when they play host to Middle Tennessee and Murray State in a doubleheader.
