Ashton Ward is following in the same footsteps as Monica Abbott.
The Tennessee freshman was named the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Collegiate Player of the Week and the SEC Pitcher and Freshman of the Week.
Abbott, a four time All-American, also won the national and league awards when she made her debut four years ago.
Ward won three games at the Cathedral City Kickoff in Cathedral City, Calif. The right-hander pitched 16 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and struck out 15. Two of the wins came in relief.
Ward’s line was three innings, one hit and three strikeouts in her debut against Utah State; a one-hitter and eight strikeouts against Oregon; and six innings with four strikeouts and three hits against Oregon State.

Way to go Ashton, you and the Lady Vols bring us home a National Championship. Just take it one game at a time.

Had the pleasure to see three games last weekend, two of which she pitched. Very impressive. There was a great turnout of Vol fans- I would guess as many as 50 in good support.
