Bowman runs her fastest times after appendectomy

A little more than a month after having her appendix removed, Tennessee's Sarah Bowman is running the fastest times of her career.

Late Friday night at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., the Lady Vol All-American posted her second-consecutive career best and produced a fourth-place finish in the mile run. Her time of 4 minutes, 36.51 seconds is second-fastest in UT history, just shy of Alisa Harvey's 4:35.25 school record on March 2, 1986.

Senior Courtney Champion was seventh (7.42 seconds) in the 60-meter dash and fourth in the 200 (23.73), earning an NCAA provisional time.

Former Lady Vol and NCAA indoor record-holder Nicole Cook placed second in the 800 (2:03.11).

In the afternoon session, Tennessee junior Katie Van Horn notched an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meters (16:24.28), the third-fastest time in Lady Vol history.

Shanna Dickenson finished third in the weight throw at 63 feet, 4 .75 inches.

Rolanda Bell was third in the mile at 4:50.2, improving her career best by more than three seconds.

Men's Track: Senior sprinter Rubin Williams, selected SEC Male Co-Runner of the Week by the league office following his performance at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City, placed third in the 200 (20.84) at the Tyson Invitational.

Women's Tennis: Tennessee's comeback fell short, as the Lady Vols lost to No. 25 Michigan, 4-3, in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Lady Vols (4-2) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the match before the Wolverines (2-3) closed out the victory with a three-set win on the second court.

For the first time this season, the Lady Vols failed to win a doubles point, losing all three matches.

Soccer: The Lady Vols' spring schedule, announced Friday, is highlighted by a home scrimmage with perennial power North Carolina on March 1.

Tennessee will play in an indoor tournament Feb. 24 at Tusculum. Also featured March 1 is a scrimmage will Illinois. North Carolina also will play Ohio State, and Ohio State will take on Illinois. The Lady Vols will play at Georgia on March 29 and at Duke on April 5. Auburn comes to Knoxville on April 6.
