Alabama's Elder charged with robbery

Alabama freshman defensive lineman Jeremy Elder has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery.

Elder was arrested Sunday and remained jailed Monday on $120,000 bond after two male Alabama students reported to campus police Saturday night that they were robbed by a gun-wielding man.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Elder has been "indefinitely suspended from all football-related activities.

"I won't have an announcement on his future status until I have had a chance to review all of the information," Saban said in a statement Monday. "The university and football program have strict guidelines regarding legal issues of this magnitude."

The two students reported a male approached them with a gun as they walked to their vehicle in the Small Group Housing parking lot shortly after 11 p.m., and took cash from one of the students.

Neither student was hurt during the robbery.

Elder, a 6-foot-3, 271-pounder from College Park, Ga., was redshirted last season.

Under state law, first-degree robbery involves either a "deadly weapon or dangerous instrument" or someone causing "serious physical injury to another." Both charges are Class A felonies.

Come on John, where's the love for Miles? LSU is out of control. The probable starting quarterback suspended.

Let's see, in the last week South Carolina, Alabama along with UT have had players in trouble.

From the look of things, it isn't Phillip Fulmer, Les Miles, Nick Saban or Steve Spurrier that are the problems, it's the kids.

We glamorous thugs and drunks in movies and on TV and then we wonder why athletes get in trouble.

We have a serious problem in society that goes beyond college football teams and players. The more publicized athletes that are getting in trouble are just a reflection of what's happening in the world.

We need more role models such as Tony Dungy, A.C. Green and Darrell Green. We need men of all races to stand and be mentors and role models for not only the gifted athletes we watch on Saturdays, but for the average kid that nobody will ever hear about.

Great question. I am sure it is his fault somehow. It's likely that Fulmer recruited this young man, obviously making him responsible for the young man's every action after that meeting.

Hey Adams, get your Lousiana corn dog stinking head out of the sand. It happens everywhere. At least we aren't shooting rifles off in the air or robbing people. GMAFB!

It's Fulmer's fault. That's what John Adams said.

let me see ... smoking pot.... bad ... drinking and driving .... horrible .... pulling a gun on someone to get a few bucks ... come on now there is a difference between thugs and partying too hard or having a drinking problem... see it could always be worse, but then again that's what happen when satan coaches.

6ft, 3in and he needed a gun? Old habits hard to break. You can take him out of the neighborhood, but can't take the neighborhood out of him! Looks like Fulmer let one get away when recruiting!
