Please, somebody put this game on TV on Wednesday. How can you not want to have the #2 team in the country on TV??? It's my birthday and that's want I want for a present. Thanks.

Even though this is a weak year for the SEC, poll-wise, LSU on its worse night is far better than any Conference USA team. A quick check of the Tiger website (http://gotigersgo.cstv.com/sports/m-b...) shows the top article is "Memphis, Tennessee Top AP Poll, Setting Up 1 vs. 2 Matchup." You have to scroll to the bottom of the page before "Tulane" is ever mentioned. As much as I'd like to see the Vols having a go at an undefeated No. 1, I'd LOVE to see Memphis have such tunnel vision that they lose to Tulane. They almost blew it against UAB, and their post-game behavior shows how upset they were about it.

Meanwhile, Bruce has the proper perspective on the matter. Conference games are more important than non-conference games and the next game you play is your most important.

Hey Bristol, just come on down to TommyB on Wednesday and watch the game the way it was meant to be watched: live and in person!

So now the News-Sentinel is just farming out its columns? "Let the Memphis folks write it, it's not our job!" Have some self-respect.....

Hunter: The same company signs both of their checks. So does it really matter who writes the story?

It's all hype anyway,
Non-hunter.

The article was written by Calkins and he basically called Pearl a liar for saying that Auburn was more important than Memphis. Calkins has been known to be the "shock" columnist that bashes UT much like our own Jon Adams does. I guess they brought him in since Adams was too busy trying to implode the football team.

Hunter writes:

Yes, it matters who writes the article. I submit another example: the SEC pays out bowl payouts and revenue across to all 12 schools (thus explaining why Vandy sticks around). Should the schools stop competing because the same company signs the checks?

Don't discount hype - it's made champions out of chumps (Charles Woodson, 1996 Florida, and others). Enough hype on this game and a good showing the rest of the season will get us a #1 seed.

And $5 says you're half as hot as you think you are.....

Auburn is definitely more important than Memphis, because Tennessee's #1 goal must be to win the SEC outright. utchris2003, Calkins and nobody else in Memphis understands that, because the only time anything exciting ever happens in their insular world, 200 miles from anything except Delta farmland, is when the much-despised Tennessee Vols come to town on the rare occasion when the game means something. I've been here 20 years, and Tennessee plays more meaningful home football games every year than the sum total of exciting athletic events in Memphis over 20 years. Excitement comes here about as often as a full eclipse of the sun. The last time something meaningful happened here was the 1990 Tennessee v Ole Miss football game.

Steve,

I feel you. I am here in this insular place as well.
