Former University of Tennessee standout Cosey Coleman was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after being accused of hitting a woman in the eye with a box of candy.
The report appeared in Friday's Tampa Tribune.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested Coleman, 29, at his Tampa, Fla., home about 8 p.m. Thursday after the mother of his children called 911.
The woman, Rernitral Johnson, 33, does not live with Coleman, the sheriff's office said.
Coleman was visiting her Thursday evening when the two began to argue and he struck her in the left eye with a yellow candy box he was holding, an arrest affidavit states.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show Tampa police arrested Coleman on a domestic battery charge in October 2002.
He entered a pretrial intervention program and was not prosecuted, court records state.
Coleman played for the Tampa Buccaneers from 2000-04, including time as an offensive guard in Super Bowl XXXVII.
Afterward he played for the Cleveland Browns for two years.
Jail records list him as unemployed.

Fulmer, why weren't you in Tampa to prevent that from happening?
Sorry. A very unfortunate event. Coleman should know better than that.

Judging by the color of the box it was probably milk duds ... Fulmer should have seen this one coming and made a call at the precise moment to stop this all from happening... Get him John Adams ... fire another missile at the coach he's letting it get out of hand again.

Once again, the KNS tries to link the Tennessee football program with someone who has not been a part of the program for years. What if someone who worked for you a 8-10 years ago committed a crime? Would you be blamed for that person's acts now? I'm sure you would be outraged, but it's OK for it to be Fulmer's fault. Did Cosey get in any trouble while at UT? I can't remember it if he did. Fulmer can't be responsible for all the guys who played for him as they fan out around the country through the years.

BOASoldier,
With all due respect sir. I must wholeheartedly disagree with you. They were Whitmans.
I put the blame on her. How the heck can you argue with a man showin' up with a box of chocolates!!??
Convict 1: "So how'd you end up in here."
Cosey: "I hit her with some chocolate."
Convict 1: "Yeah, that's what they all say."
In all seriousness, how the heck is he not still playing?? He is listed as unemployed. That is really sad. Hope things work out for Cosey.

Hey Adans, I saw where Haskel Stanback made an illegal left turn onto Peachtree in Atlanta. It's time to write that scathing Bill Battle article and blame him for Haskel's transgression.

KNS, when does this end?!?!?! Stop posting irrelevant information that has zero impact on Tennessee, just to prove Adams' point! This does not affect our program, and I find it shameful that you, KNS, are going so low as to say "haha, told you so, your player who hasn't been at the university for 7 years screwed up, it's all fulmer's fault". I hope you enjoy that you made it in espn, the bad news for you is that Adams is taking the heat, not Fulmer. UNPROFESSIONAL

Unless I'm mistaken niether Leonard, Dwayne, Cosey, Jamal, Cheese, nor Albert ever had a problem while at UT so why would Adams throw them under the bus? Oh wait, I guess that is part of his agenda to drag UT down to his level. Of the 38 former Vols currently on NFL rosters why didn't Adams memtion the 34 or 90% that haven't had any off-field problems? Since he is so erudite on the subject, why not make him the disipline coach so that he can equally dazzle us with his pedestrian skills in this arena as he has done for so many years at the KNS.

Hey adams,
Write up a big article on why Miles should be fired because Perrilloux has been a repeat offender.
In fact, I don't even recall seeing an article on that prima-donna on KNS, which is surprising because he's your homeboy and it actually could impact us if we play them in the SECCG...

John Adams is right that Colquitt should have been booted by Fulmer, no doubt, but dragging out these tired old stories of Vols who screwed up after they left school is stupid and irresponsible journalism. Heck, I don't think you can call it journalism, just plain name smearing.

Write the board of KNS to demand the end of Adams. The boycott has begun against advertisers of KNS sports including the pitiful News Sentinel sports radio show daily between 10-12 on the Sports Animal.
It is time for a house cleaning at the KNS. Too much incest. The staff is stale, ineffective and predictable. We need new reporters that are hungry and can instill pride and discipline in the newsroom. The new sports editor needs to be recruited from the best journalists in America prepared to motivate a rebuilt team with contemporary strategies as they train in their cubicles against the best reporters in the SEC and D1 sports.

Ya know, even if USA Today is a little left leaning its content is usually pretty comprehensive. They will deliver daily. I also think Oak Ridge and Maryville papers, at least they used to, have pretty good coverage of local events and news.
KNS is and always was a rag. Any of you tech heads out there interested in starting a REAL dedicated UT sports site so we can eliminate this BS?

KNS, now its getting childish. Is this the kind of journalism you want to be know for? If so, change the name of the paper to the Knoxville Enquirer.
There are several great writers at that paper. Its shameful to see there work tarnished for what this crap is causing.
Let ESPN post all the BS about Tennessee. We need a home town newspaper that supports the Vols and if on occasion something unfortunate happens then make your print critically constructive.

This is just another example that proves the only reason for the kns "sports" section to exist is the University of Tebnnessee's Athletic Department, but you wonder why it is so dumb as to try to destroy the reason for its existence, You have to look at the source, I suppose. Based on this reasoning, miles should be fired because of billy cannon's and perrtiloux's problems. He would likely deny the existence of adams.

For a second I thought this was about BJ Coleman, UT's current back-up quarterback. I was thinking, "Wow, this is bad timing!" But really, Cosey was a good offensive lineman during his time at UT, but no one cares about a brush with the law 10 years after the player leaves Knoxville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe has dismissed cornerback Rod Council from the team after Council allegedly robbed a gas station early Wednesday morning.

The KNS always reports former Vols in the news (good, bad or otherwise.) No where does the article state Fulmer is to blame nor do I see where John Adams is credited with writing this. The flood gates of stupidity have really opened wide today. Keep up the good work, everyone.

utvolz, Cosey Coleman's major at UT is listed by wikipedia as 'legal studies.' He's just doing research from the inmate's perspective for his "Criminal Justice" major! jimr07, you have the wrong OJ coach, it was John McKay who coached him. Dig him up and punish the man! OJ's sociopathic personality is all his fault! Finally, Gonzo journalism reminds a Tennessean in Texas of Gary P. Nunn and the Lost Gonzo Band--"I want to go home with the Armadillo--...---The friendliest people and the prettiest (not the original lyric) women you've ever seen!" Those were the halcyon days of Waylon, Willie, Ray Wiley Hubbard, Jerry Jeff Walker, etc. Go Vols! SAVol

I would like to see how any of the young men John Adams has tutored have turned out. The players he has coached. The sons he has raised.
Whoops; I forgot. John has never sired nor coached a child. He never played a down himself.
Having John Adams write about discipling young men is like Popular Mechanics magazine hiring an editor who has never seen an automobile.
Hiring Adams to analyze and write about anything MANLY is a lot like sending Sam Venable to cover the ballet.
