Redshirt freshman Bryan Morgado knows how to make an entrance.
Morgado made his University of Tennessee pitching debut on Monday and struck out 10 of the first 12 batters he faced en route to a 2-1 victory against Furman.
The left-hander from Miami gave up just two hits, one unearned run, one walk and finished with 12 strikeouts.
For a comparison, here are some strikeout numbers of a few other former UT pitching stars in their Vol debuts: James Adkins (seven), Patrick Hicklen (seven), Luke Hochevar (six), Todd Helton (five), R.A. Dickey (two).
UT closer Jeff Lockwood earned a saved, but he managed to make it interesting. He struck out the first batter he faced, walked the next three to load the bases and then finished the Paladins off with two strikeouts.
The Vols play again 3 p.m. Wednesday at home against Austin Peay.

Looks like this team is going to struggle scoring.

Strigggle with scoring runs is an understatement....When you lose three first round draft picks to MLB, it kinda cuts into your run scoring abilities...

let's give coach Raleigh some credit, and time, to put together his type of team. The decision was made, so now lets get behind the baseball team and see how it all shakes out.

mr. A you are starting to build a reputation for weird posting. Your lovefest with John A. now a shielded warm ,fuzzy for Coach D. departed. Relevance is a territory you are running from apparently. Lost 6 to draft and coach D's son wasn't a slacker either. Reality says this is going to be a tough year. However, our losses will not be due to a lack of effort. Go VOLS beat Austin Peay wednesday!

rabidvol: You serious? Never heard too many people defend Delmonico. But I admit to not following the hardball program too much. Other Delmonico defenders here?

I think it was fairly similar to the Jerry Green situation. Decent success but no one really liked the guy, so it makes it easier to fire him. People like Bruce Pearl, so no, that wouldn't be the same situation.

I confess I really havn't followed the program closely. I do beleive that Delmonico was being criticised on all fronts. He was killing our pitching staff by over pitching starters. Word had gotton out that if you wanted an arm left, don't go to UT. He was jerk to the media and a lot the big donors.
G8er_H8er writes:
Don't fool yourself. Delmonico was overrated. Last years team and several others had a lot of MLB talent, but did not seem to play hard and underachieved. Same can be said for Fulmer, but he is a Tennessean and not a Yankee pierce that Delmonico came off as.
G8er_H8er writes:
This team will struggle this season. Delmonico did well early largely in part to Helton and Tramel. He then only wanted to recruit JUCO's and Miamians. He didn't think that the state of Tennessee produced enough D1 talent. Of late Vandy has proven this wrong with their success with Price and Minor. Delmonicos real stars where Tennesseans such as Helton, Tramel, Dickey, and Adkins.
