The Tennessee women's golf team carded a 297 - its best round of the tournament - to finish ninth at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R., on Tuesday.
Angela Oh shot a 1-over-par 73 to lead the team. She finished 12th overall with a 221 for three rounds. Marci Turner had a 73 to finished at 225 in a tie for 31st with teammates Diana Cantu and Nicole Smith.
"We had a great round going today until the last four holes," coach Judi Pavon said. "We are disappointed with the tournament, but actually did a lot of positive things this week. We definitely know what we need to work on in the next 10 days to be prepared for our next tournament."
Alabama won the team title at 880. UT was at 896.
Softball: Because of weather concerns, the Lady Vols have postponed a double-header with Liberty scheduled for today at Lee Softball Stadium until 3 p.m. April 8.
The Lady Vols' next game will be Friday against Charlotte at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.
Track: Chanelle Price, who owns the fastest 800-meter time by a high school girl in the past 25 years, and Ramzee Fondren, who ranks sixth nationally in the 800, signed with UT.
Price's time of 2 minutes, 2.38 second was run in the 2007 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. The Easton (Pa.) High School product is ranked No. 1 in the U.S. among high school runners this year in the 800, 1,000 and 500.
Fondren, from Renaissance High School in Detroit, has won three consecutive Michigan state championships in the 800. She also won the 1,600 last year.
"The fastest person I have ever signed has been Hazel (Clark) at 2:05," said UT coach J.J. Clark. "One of them (Price) is under that, and the other is right at it. With a year of high school (this year's spring season) remaining they both can be better than anyone I have ever signed."
Cross Country: The men's cross country team was selected an All-Academic Team by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Vols were one of 98 out of 299 Division I cross country teams to be honored. UT's cumulative team GPA was 3.09.
Thirteen runners contributed: Mike Brodsky, David Clabo, Anrew Dawson, Steve Fassino, Denton Jones, Chris Kane, Yarrick Kincaid, Matt Piccarello, Andrew Press, Chris Rapp, Brent Smith, Michael Spooner and Steve Tobin.
