Alabama will play Clemson at the Georgia Dome on Aug. 30 in the 2008 season opener for both teams, their first meeting in 33 years.
In making the announcement Friday, Atlanta officials said the game is intended to launch a tradition of season openers at the Georgia Dome. The Alabama-Clemson game will be televised on ESPN or ABC and organized by Atlanta's Chick-fil-A Bowl staff.
The last time Clemson played Alabama was 1975, and the 56-0 rout was the Crimson Tide's 11th consecutive win in the series.
"Do you happen to have the score from that last game?" Clemson coach Tommy Bowden said Friday. "It's not a rivalry."
Some Charges Dropped: All charges were dropped Friday against one of three people accused in a sexual offense case involving three North Carolina football players, The News & Observer in Raleigh reported.
Judge Alonzo Coleman dismissed kidnapping, robbery and sexual offense charges against Tnikia Washington during a probable-cause hearing, according to the newspaper.
The case stems from a reported robbery Dec. 12 at the apartment shared by two of the players. The men told police they were fondled against their will, and two players testified a man put a knife to their necks, the newspaper reported.
The two other suspects still face charges.
Monique Taylor, 28, of Greenville faces charges including kidnapping, first-degree sex offense and conspiracy. The charges against 32-year-old Michael Lewis of Durham include robbery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping.
Petrino Announces Staff: Atlanta Falcons' Mike Summers and Louisville's Reggie Johnson will follow Bobby Petrino to Arkansas.
Summers will coach the offensive line for the Razorbacks, while Johnson will coach linebackers. Petrino's staff includes: quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee from Northwestern, defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson from Mississippi State and defensive line and special teams coach Kirk Botkin from Louisiana-Monroe.
Petrino's brother, Paul Petrino, will serve as offensive coordinator. Arkansas' Tim Horton will coach running backs and tight ends, and Bobby Allen will coach the defensive line.
In other coaching news:
n Two of Rich Rodriguez's assistants at West Virginia, including offensive coordinator Calvin Magee, will join the former Mountaineers coach at Michigan. Defensive backs coach Tony Gibson also will join Rodriguez's staff in Ann Arbor, Michigan spokesman Bruce Madej said.
n Reggie Herring, Arkansas' interim head coach in the Cotton Bowl, was hired to become the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. The 48-year-old Herring was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Arkansas for the past three seasons under Houston Nutt.
n Todd Bradford, linebackers coach at Oklahoma State, has been named defensive coordinator at Southern Miss.
n Charlie Harbison, who coached safeties at Mississippi State this past season, has been promoted to defensive coordinator, head football coach Sylvester Croom said.
n Troy coach Larry Blakeney has promoted assistant coach Neal Brown to offensive coordinator, making the 27-year-old the youngest coordinator in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
n Chris Mussman was hired at North Dakota to replace Dale Lennon, who left last week to take the head coaching job at Southern Illinois.
NFL Draft: Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey will skip his senior season to enter the NFL draft. Other players entering the draft are Indiana's James Hardy, the school's career leader in touchdown receptions and yardage, and Hawaii's Davone Bess, the school's career leader in receptions (293) and touchdowns (41).

The word on the street is that TN is going to give one classic beat down to Alabama in K-town next year.
Rumor has it that small children will not be allowed to watch the game. Some animals may also be prohibited.

Do people in Bama remember how to get to Atlanta, it's been a while? Enjoy the visit in the Summer. We'll see Auburn or LSU there in December.

nicksjuzunk-let's hope that some one in Orange remembers how to beat the Tide. We don't need another season with that burr under our saddle.
Great 2008 to all.

VolCR,
Shhhhh! Something has stirred up the anti-Majors rats and they're runnin' rampant all over these threads. Don't say things like that about Fulmer. He won a National Championship! They'll just try to deflect their indignation on Coach Majors.

tngeoff- they'll be having the 10th anniversary of that NC this year. Do you and TommyJack have your tickets to the banquet? Hope the glass ball hasn't crystalized. Hear they asked TDTN to emcee the soiree. Some donut outfit is sponsoring this year. Should be fun. Stay the course.
