Lady Vols cruise in swimming

The Tennessee women's swimming team won 16 of 19 events to defeat Northwestern 220-131 at the Student Aquatic Center on Saturday.

"At this point, we are really solid and consistent and I think it's a great achievement," Lady Vols coach Matt Kredich said. "It reflects a tremendous amount of team unity and team vision."

Freshman Aleksa Akerfelds and sophomore Michele King each won three events for the No. 8 Lady Vols.

Akerfelds was first in the 500-yard freestyle in four minutes, 53.52 seconds and won the 1650 free (16:25.18) and the 400 individual medley (4:24.12).

King won the 100 free (50.20), the 200 IM (2:04.78) and the 50 free (23.60). She also was the leadoff leg for the winning 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.

"Michele put together one of the best meets she has had since she's been here," Kredich said. "She had seven great swims."

Christine Magnuson had an NCAA automatic qualifying time to win the 100 fly (53.64), won the 200 free (1:48.04) and was part of the winning 400 medley and 200 free relays.

Lauren LeRoy swept the diving with zone qualifying scores at one-meter (269.85) and three-meter (285.69).

Men's Diving: Ryan Rincon of UT had his best day of the three-day Georgia Diving Invitational by placing sixth in the platform with a score of 297.80.
