Tennessee tailbacks Lennon Creer and Josh Hawkins, defensive tackle Chase Nelson, wide receiver Lucas Taylor and defensive back Brent Vinson had surgery Monday, the UT sports information office announced in a release.
The surgeries were performed by Drs. Greg Mathien and Russell Betcher.
Creer underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and should return by spring practice. Hawkins, a Loudon High School product who redshirted this season, was injured in bowl practice and had a pin placed in the middle part of his left foot to stabilize a torn ligament. He should return for fall practice.
Nelson suffered an injury to his right wrist against Louisiana-Lafayette. He had pins removed from the wrist and is expected to return this spring.
Taylor had an arthroscopic reconstruction on his shoulder and will miss spring practice. He is expected back for individual workouts in the summer.
Vinson also had shoulder arthroscopic reconstruction and will miss spring drills.

don't quite understand about Mr Taylor and how he becomes academically ineligble. It caused him to let his teamates down in their biggest game but wants surgery paid by the university so he can play more football.Lets get players at the university that love the big orange and know what it takes to be part of the orange nation. go to class and study!!!!!

tlc3wp = idiot or uninformed. Although I absolutely agree that Taylor has an obligation to take care of his academic business, all big-time programs are going to pay for surgery to ensure that their assets can get back on the field. Do you really think UT would commit to the expense of a four-year scholarship and then ask a college student to pay for a football-related injury that limits his effectiveness?

I heard that Taylor only got coal for Christmas and that an old lady called him, "a very bad boy." when he wished her Merry Christmas.

Didn't mean to upset you all. Just want the best for all these players on and off the field. There is more to these kids lives then what happens on Saturday afternoons for our enjoyment. Of course I understand the risk of injury and the obligation the university has to these players. But the players must understand their obligation to the university also which includes going to class and passing a few credit hours. We recruit some of the best athletes in the country . I just want them on the field all the time and want them to be succesful after their careers are over.

If you want good students in the classroom then go to Duke right? I'm sure Cut and his crew don't have to worry about the team making the grade.

If I understand correctly, Taylor's grades weren't the issue so much as not getting enough credits in his major. The suggestion seemed to be that his situation wasn't managed correctly rather than him being an bad student.

sjt, exactly. Taylor passed the hours. He went to class. The NCAA, in its infinite wisdom, instituted a new rule this year that said that 6 credit hours had to be passed in classes toward the major. Apparently, Lucas recently changed his and the hours he passed (which were much more than the minimum of 6) did not count toward that new major.
