McGee will make decision Tuesday
Stacy McGee will announce his college decision on Tuesday, but that doesn't mean it will be his final choice.
McGee, a defensive end from Muskogee (Okla.) High School, said he will choose between Tennessee, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.
McGee has taken official visits to Oklahoma and Texas Tech, which would seem to give the Sooners and Red Raiders the upper hand in his recruitment.
McGee admitted it will be tough to choose UT or Florida having not seen their campuses, but he said he still plans to schedule visits to both schools before National Signing Day on Feb. 6.
McGee said he could possibly change his commitment if he finds a better fit.
"If I get down there and like what I see, my mind could change," the 6-foot-4, 260-pounder said.
McGee said Oklahoma has the advantage because it's an in-state school. He said that will play a strong role in his decision.
"I'm used to seeing my family sitting up there," he said. "That's big motivation for me to play harder. It's a big thing for them to come watch me."
McGee said UT has continued to remain on his list of schools because of his relationship with defensive ends coach Steve Caldwell and head coach Phillip Fulmer.
McGee said he believes Caldwell has been honest during their conversations.
"He shoots you straight," McGee said. "He doesn't fill your head up. I like the way he coaches."
McGee, who could play defensive tackle in college, said his preference is to remain on the outside and be coached by Caldwell.
"He said I'll probably come in and not even redshirt," McGee said. "He talked about working with me over the summer and I could play as a freshman. If not, I could redshirt."
McGee said he will talk to teammate Jameel Owens about UT's campus before he makes his announcement Tuesday. Owens, a wide receiver who also will announce his college choice Tuesday, visited UT this weekend.
McGee said he spoke to Owens on Saturday night while Owens was in Knoxville.
"He just told me it was fun and I missed out," McGee said. "He was like, 'You should have come.' "
McGee said he and Owens often discuss going to the same school. They took visits to Oklahoma and Texas Tech together.
"We talk about that all the time," McGee said. "It would be fun to go to the same school and have someone you could trust that you grew up with in the same town going to the same school."

Ive heard Owens is the next Meachem. Mcgee would be nice to fill the holes in the interior. They would be great, but Mcgee said that he is committing on Tuesday, and he hasnt even seen UT. Not looking for us. As for Owens, its better to run through a T than an O.

We need DE's. C'mon, buddy...just look at the Oklahomans that have done well at UT--Robert Meachem, Marcus Nash and Raymond Austin.
"Oklahoma is OK", but Tennessee is much, much better!

curtis was the fastest RB at the us army all star game or he ran the fastest 40 out of everybody there
Posted by volunteer_cowboy on January 13, 2008 at 10:13 p.m. (Suggest removal)
this is from scout on curtis: He also averaged 37.5 yards per kickoff return and 30.9 yards per punt return and had nearly 2,000 yards total offense.
Curtis, who ran the fastest 40-yard dash time at the U.S. Army All American National combine this year and averaged over 10 yards per offensive snap.

I think if he didn't see UT's campus, he's not considering coming. He'll probably do his best into talking Jameel Owens into staying at Oklahoma too...

Okay guys, I have information from an EXTREMELY credible source close to the coaching search that you all would be interested in knowing. Because I don't know how confidential the information was, and I don't want the person in trouble, I'm not going to give any details beyond saying that I'd bet my next paycheck on what this person told me. I'll first post the information, and then comment on some of it.
Dave Clawson will be introduced as our official offensive coordinator. I was told this will happen tomorrow (Wednesday).
As you can see, Stan Drayton is coming to Tennessee. He is bringing some top recruit with him. Because of restrictions on talking about recruits, my source was not able to tell me who that is.
Chad Loeffler is coming to Tennessee and he's bringing Ryan Mallet with him. The assumption is that he will be coaching quarterbacks, but oddly enough my source didn't say what position he would be coaching (this will make more sense in a second).
Mike DeBord is also coming to Tennessee. Again, my source didn't talk about what position he would be coaching. My assumption would be that he will coach tight ends and possibly special teams.
My source also told me that there is a big surprise that no one will see coming. If I understand correctly, it has something to do with a hire on the coaching staff. That's what makes me unsure about the positions these hires will take (Mostly what Chad Loeffler will coach). The only names I could eliminate off the list are Alvin Harper, Carl Pickens, and George Quarles. After that my source just told me that I'll find out Thursday when these other coaching hires are announced.

nicksaban - I'm a huge UT fan, but your name has no class and isn't funny!! That's a slap in the face to any parent that's ever had something like that happen to their kid!! You should seriously consider changing that one immediately!! I'm not a P.C. person either, that's just wrong!!

I think the nicksaban name is hilarious...I obviously don't condone pedophilia either, but have a sense of humor...Saban brought it on himself, being the toolshed that he is...
on another note,
get these boys out here!

Ok guys enough with the child predator stuff. First of all, volunteer_cowboy, the man does owe you his paycheck, and second, Mallett wasnt going to get to play anyways, because Crompton is going to be the next great qb @ UT for the next two years. Third, CPF made some great choices in his hires this offseason and he deserves the credit, along with Mike Hamilton. Fourth, is anybody else anxious to see the Orange and White game?

Okla has deep inside track. Note the mention of family watching. Hard to overcome that edge.

Yes. That's about as stupid as it gets. I was very hopeful for those two guys but if that's it... then UT should cut the losses right now.
orangebloodgmc, the report is apparently true.

I don't think McGee would be announcing his college destination without visiting UT or UF if he had any inclination to play there. I think his final answer is Oklahoma "where the wind comes sweeping down the plains." And the Sooners can't seem to stay out of the Fiesta Bowl soup.

He made a good move staying home & not being in the same line as jameel Owens, Jones, & Paige. Fulmer needs to look at who he needs to let the next recruits hang out with.

Well, there goes the G-Gun up in smoke. Then again, perhaps not. Maybe he didn't inhale.

HAHAHAHA, ok allow me to interperet this.
McGee-Hey man, whats up.
Owens- Man you aren't going to believe what happened to us earlier tonight!
McGee-Whats that?
Owens- First we checked out some local hot spots and hung with some ladies. Then, we took a car ride and boy did it get crazy. We got pulled over by Knoxville police while I was rolling with 2 players and we were smoking some blunts. Yea, they got pulled over for a broken plate light and smoke was coming out of the car from the weed we were hitting. It was crazy man.
Mcgee- Oh yea.
Owens- Yea, you should have come. It was fun, you missed out.
McGee- Go Vols.
