Mississippi's Zach Graham, right, bowls past Florida's Alex Tyus (23) in the Rebels' 89-87 victory Wednesday.
Dwayne Curtis had 20 points and 12 rebounds and freshman Trevor Gaskins scored 19 points and No. 18 Mississippi snapped a six-game losing streak to Florida with an 89-87 victory Wednesday night at Oxford, Miss.
The Gators (15-3, 2-1 SEC) had no answer for the wide-bodied Curtis, who was a force for the Rebels (15-1, 2-1) as they tried to put away Florida late.
Curtis hit two free throws to ice the game, though the Rebels had a nervous moment as Nick Calathes cut their lead to two with a 3-pointer in the waning seconds.
Gaskins hit three 3-pointers and scored eight points during a 19-5 run midway through the second half that gave the Rebels the cushion they needed to win.
It was the first win for Ole Miss against the two-time defending national champions since 2002.
Calathes and Dan Werner led Florida with 16 points apiece.
South Carolina 70, Arkansas 66: Devan Downey scored 28 points, including a tough fadeaway from about 6 feet with 23.7 seconds remaining in the visiting Gamecocks' victory.
Downey also had six steals to help South Carolinacks (9-8, 1-2) withstand a rally by Arkansas' Sonny Weems.
Arkansas (13-4, 2-1) trailed by as many as eight in the second half. Weems scored 21 of his 28 points after halftime.
South Carolina went 8-of-21 from 3-point range, and Arkansas was 3-of-14. The Razorbacks turned the ball over 19 times.
Georgia 61, Alabama 54: Billy Humphrey, who hit a key late 3-pointer, led the host Bulldogs (10-5, 1-1 SEC) with 13 points.
Freshman Jeremy Price scored 11.
Alabama (11-7) is 0-3 in SEC games for the first time since 1998-99, Richard Hendrix led Alabama with 19 points.
Auburn 74, LSU 67: DeWayne Reed scored 20 points as the Tigers won at Baton Rouge.
Auburn (10-5, 1-2 SEC) trailed by 17 points in the first half but scored 11 in a row to win.
Marcus Thornton's 27 points led LSU (7-10, 0-3).

Florida is not going to just go away no matter how hard we want them to.

No, they are not, but they are not baby Gods either. Go Vols...Kick theirs and beat them out of the head spot this year. We usually beat them so this year we must make it meaningful by winning the east and the SEC. When they have kids knocking down the door to go there now as "former winners", everyone is doing great to do more with lesser talent. Let attitude prevail.

Good win, Rebels. Gators will always be tuff with Donovan there.

I am looking forward to watching UT against Florida's zone press. No one has really pressed UT since Pearl came here. Its going to be important that we make them pay. Could be the game Lofton goes for 35.

The Gators are young but talented. They will range from very good to pretty bad at various times, usually when one least expects it either way. Ironcity raises a good question. I HOPE can pass it well enough to beat it, but JaJuan and Ramar in particular need to be careful where they throw it. We haven't had much practice against pressure ourselves, except maybe in practice. I am still waiting for us to come up with a zone press of our own. I'm hoping CBP has already been working on one and is just waiting for the right time to spring it.

tenn is better than florida by leaps and bounds this season.
florida has some talent, certainly, but they have problems with a lack of size and muscle that they just can't fix until next year's reecruits come to gainesville. if tenn can stay mentally focused....hand them the SEC trophy now.
