ATLANTA — Georgia football legend Herschel Walker is expected to reveal in an upcoming book that he has multiple personalities — a revelation that surprises the man who coached the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner.
“That’s all news to me,” former Georgia coach Vince Dooley said. “All I know is whatever personality he had when he had the football was the one I liked.”
“Breaking Free” will chronicle Walker’s life with multiple personality disorder, according to Shida Carr, the book’s publicist at Simon & Schuster.
Carr said the book will be published in August, but gave no other details and declined to provide excerpts.
“There’s some buzz out there and we’re letting people know we have this book coming out,” Carr told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In three seasons at Georgia, Walker led the Bulldogs to a 33-3-1 record, three straight Southeastern Conference championships and the 1980 national title. He won the Heisman as a junior, then left school a year early to sign with the now-defunct U.S. Football League.
Walker went onto play in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. He has lived in Dallas since his playing career ended.
A former Georgia teammate also was caught off guard by Walker’s revelation.
“I’m probably one of his closest friends and that’s news to me,” said Frank Ros, who was captain of Georgia’s 1980 national championship team. “I knew he was working on a book but I just thought it was about football. He does 100 things at once and always has projects going on, but that blows me away.”
The newspaper said Walker could not be reached for comment.
Multiple personality disorder, also known as dissociative identity disorder, is a rare mental condition in which one person has two or more distinct personalities, according to the Merck Manual of Medical Information.

Was one of his personalities a bulldozer?

I know Bill Bates' answer to that.

Good heavens, this will sell nearly 4-7 copies outside of Athens. Great running back 25 or so years ago, can't turn it loose.

Those of us who live in Georgia know that they talk about Herschel as if he was still playing. Maybe Moreno is one of his personalities in disguise.

Maybe that was why the Minnesota Vikings had to trade so many players to the Dallas Cowboys for him. 3 players per personality.

juicetke, that's the first thing I thought of too. Which personality ran over Bates? Did they keep records of the footprints on his chest? Maybe they can tell from those.
Alpharetta, good question on Moreno. Hopefully, it's not a Travis Henry thing. (He does run a little like Herschel.)

Hell I wouldn't want to tackle any of the Walkers.Maybe Jimmy or Johnny Walker Red.Hershel was tough as nails. You never heard anything negative about him.Class act.Any word on our last coaching position?

Amen alpharettavol. I'm in Covington. You'd think Herschel was still playing, and he doesn't even live in Georgia. And my friends say UT fans won't let Peyton go. I do, however have to agree that Herschel has always been a pretty classy guy. Even earlier this year when he challenged Steve Superior to a fight in the Atlanta paper. That was great!

Sounds like bogus book-sellin blather to me.

wonder which herschel wanted a piece of spurrier last year?
Posted by ctownvol on January 18, 2008 at 3:47 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Maybe it was UFC Herschel with the kung-fu grip.

TommyJack- speaking of bogus book-sellin blather. (Dang! Try and say that 3 times real fast) Didn't Darren Daulton (remember him?) put out a book with a tale of him being abducted by aliens? Or is that something I dreamed up?

ctown: He did. And maybe he was. lol
Posted by ctownvol on January 18, 2008 at 4:02 p.m. (Suggest removal)
That would certainly explain a few things. Reckon he got the probe?
Posted by TommyJack on January 18, 2008 at 4:05 p.m. (Suggest removal)
ouch! Pound the probe.
Posted by ctownvol on January 18, 2008 at 4:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)
It would be better to be the pounder instead of the poundee...

This is too funny, what will people do to sell a book? This is what happens when you play for a school that has a mascot, that can only be bred through inbreeding to be pure white :)
My gosh..is there anything out there better to write about?
Go get some new Vols!!!

Any talk yet of TE coach announcement?

Trying to top vintonvol's comment but it ain't happening. We have a winner and it is he. Kingsport Vol is #1b. Was wondering what he was doing since his recording career. I was at HW's debut game where we went from 15-0 lead to 16-15L, and Bates took the hit, but don't forget Glenn Ford's fumble @ the bulldawg 2 hurt just worse. Pretty good movie actor in his prior days.

Maybe the reason Bates got hit so hard is that it was like 10 guys hitting him at once...

cltvol, thank you very much.

I want to read his book. No you don't. Yes I do. No you don't.

Teammate and close friend Frank Ros said, "He does 100 things at once and always has projects going on...."
That's because there are so many of him to do all those things.

sounds like a good way to sell books to me.

Herschel Walker's three personalities combined for a 27 on the ACT.
During his Heisman acceptance speech, it was "Boasty" that said the following: "First, I would like to thank God for making me the great person I am."
Twenty-five years later, "Meany" wanted to beat up Steve Spurrier.

Tdtn -2:33 - Agree Herschel was a great one, but I'll go with Gayle Sayers.
Who was the big Vol fullback named William _______ who carried about 8 times in a row against Vandy? Probably in 80s. Was it Howard?
