Tennessee will play without senior guard Alexis Hornbuckle for Thursday’s SEC women’s basketball game against Arkansas.
Hornbuckle will miss the game in order to have a diagnostic test. UT officials would not specify the nature of the test or the reasons for it, only saying that Hornbuckle would miss Thursday’s game as a result.
Jenny Moshak, the Lady Vols assistant athletic director for sports medicine, said Hornbuckle will be back for next Monday’s game at Duke.
Hornbuckle sat out last Tuesday’s practice with lower back pain. She spent the workout stretched out on the visitors’ bench with a heat pack on her back.
Two days later, she played 38 minutes against Kentucky. UT coach Pat Summitt called a timeout just to get Hornbuckle out of the game after UT’s 65-40 victory was secure.
Against Vanderbilt on Sunday, Hornbuckle played a team-high 32 minutes in the 79-63 victory, scoring 10 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Overall, Hornbuckle is second on the team in average minutes played at 30.5 per game. Point guard Shannon Bobbitt leads at 31.3. Hornbuckle’s 65 assists are second to Bobbitt’s 68. Hornbuckle averages 11.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Hornbuckle likely will be replaced in the starting lineup by senior Alberta Auguste, who scored six points in 21 minutes against Vanderbilt.
