Alabama still looking for offensive coordinator

Alabama is finding a hard time finding a candidate to fill its opening for offensive coordinator

Shawn Watson turned down an offer from Alabama to become the school’s offensive coordinator, The Lincoln Journal Star reported Tuesday on its Web site.

Watson, 48, who also holds the title of quarterbacks coach, has been an offensive coordinator for seven season in the Big 12.

The Birmingham News reported Sunday that Louisville offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm told Saban he was not interested in the opening created when Major Applewhite was hired by Texas last week.

On Monday, the Detroit Lions hired Scot Loeffler to be their quarterbacks coach.

Loeffler interviewed with Alabama last Thursday according to The Mobile Press-Register and left Friday without an offer

Loeffler also interviewed with Tennessee for an opening on its staff earlier this month.

Loeffler previously coached Michigan’s quarterbacks, earning recognition as one of the best young offensive assistants in college football.

Other possible candidates for Alabama include Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements, LSU offensive coordinator Gary Crowton and TCU offensive coordinator Mike Schultz.
