ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia coach Mark Richt has doubled the original one-game suspension given to fullback Fred Munzenmaier following his arrest last weekend for underage possession or consumption of alcohol.
The incident report filed by Athens-Clarke County police included details of Munzenmaier’s inappropriate exchange with the arresting officer.
Munzenmaier told the officer it was obvious the police have it “out for them,” according to the report, and that police have a point system for athletes.
Munzenmaier later used an expletive to tell the officer to shut his mouth, according to the report.
“The way he handled the situation with the police officer was totally inappropriate and demonstrated a lack of respect for authority,” Richt said. “We expect our players, just like my children, to show total respect at all times for those in authority and especially police officers.”
Munzenmaier, who will be a sophomore, will miss the first two games of the 2008 season against Georgia Southern and Central Michigan.
Defensive back Donavon Baldwin also was arrested by University of Georgia police for driving under the influence of alcohol and improper driving. He was given a one-game suspension.
Munzenmaier was arrested after he was seen on an Athens street waving his arms. According to the incident report, the officer slammed on his brakes to avoid running over him.
The officer asked Munzenmaier for his ID and noticed a strong smell of alcohol. Munzenmaier said he thought he was flagging down a taxi.

It's a shame they weren't caught with some weed. Richt would have suspended them for a season unlike Fulmer.

That Richt is awesome......everything he does is better than fulmer. That fing Fulmer....CMR is the bear incarnate. He is so wise....all knowing....all powerful. He is the man. Maybe total respect for authority would include not having your entire team rush the goal line against florida......dont you respect football authority?

Makes sense to suspend the guy who was DUI for one game but the drunk loud mouth gets two. Big difference in under age drinking and DUI. Great move coach...

I bet he can only drink "Lite" beer for the next 30 days also. But he will be allowed to practice "rushing the field".

"The police were out for them"? Um, ok...quit crying and don't break the law...then, the cops that are "out for you" won't arrest you.
