Tennessee freshman J.P. Smith, coming off two impressive wins on Saturday, could not repeat his performance Sunday at the SEC Coaches Indoor Championships in New Orleans.
Smith (9-5) fell to Mississippi State’s Ivan Bjelica 7-6, 6-4 in the semifinals. Smith now has a singles record of 9-5 this season with six of those victories coming over ranked opponents.
Smith teamed up with senior All-America Kaden Hensel in doubles but lost Ole Miss’ 24th-ranked duo of Bram ten Berge and Matthias Wellermann, 9-8 in the quarterfinals.
Jeremy Tweedt lost his semifinal match in Flight “B” to Christian Vitulli of Georgia 7-5, 7-5.
