Orgeron named assistant coach with Saints

NEW ORLEANS — Former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron is joining the New Orleans Saints as defensive line coach.

The south Louisiana native will replace Marion Hobby, who left to become defensive coordinator at Duke earlier this month, Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said Wednesday.

Before coaching at Mississippi from 2005-07, Orgeron, 46, spent seven seasons at Southern Cal, where he earned a reputation as one of the top defensive line coaches and one of the top recruiters in the country.

He has also coached at Miami, Syracuse, Arkansas and Nicholls State. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State, where he played with former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert.
