Tennessee junior offensive lineman Anthony Parker was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Knoxville police said.
According to police, the 21-year-old Parker was “being disorderly, yelling loudly and waving his arms in the air,” in the parking lot of the Sutter’s Mill apartment complex shortly after midnight.
Parker’s arrest is the third incident involving a UT player and the fourth player charged by police since Jan. 11.
According to police, Parker refused to leave the parking lot and was then arrested by officer Sam Henard and charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, police said.
Parker was taken to the Knox County Detention Center, where he was released after posting $500 cash bail.
No other details were immediately available Saturday, and KPD’s full report will not be available until early next week.
Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer is aware of the situation and will announce any disciplinary action once he is finished investigating the incident, athletic department spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter said.
On Jan. 11, police cited freshmen wide receivers Ahmad Paige and Gerald Jones with simple possession of marijuana following a traffic stop in the Fort Sanders area near campus.
Early Monday morning, UT police arrested freshman tailback Daryl Vereen for public intoxication after responding to a call of a fight in progress outside Gibbs Hall, a residence hall located across the street from the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center.
Fulmer made the entire team run at 6 o’clock Tuesday morning, as well as subjecting Vereen, Paige and Jones to public service at a drug rehabilitation center and participation in a police ride along.
In addition, Vereen faces a semester-long curfew.
Parker started all 14 games for the Vols this season at left guard, earning consensus first-team All-SEC honors.
The 6-foot-3, 305-pound Parker announced earlier this month that he would remain at UT for his senior season after submitting paperwork to the NFL’s college advisory committee.
Parker has started 27 career games, most of any player currently on Tennessee’s roster.

Is it just me, or does it seem that either the UT players are trying to send a signal that the program is in trouble, or is the Knoxville PD trying to make a name for themselves not to be messed with? This all just seems a little ridiculous to me.
Nonetheless, the stupidity needs to stop now.

You know things are bad when I read the headline and hoped this story would be about Candace and not Anthony.

Whatever happened to no harm no foul, give a warning and send them home? Seems they are pretty quick to cuff and stuff and send out a press release.

what is it about football? basketball guys don't seem to get into trouble, just football. is it the amount of players....that coaches can't stay on top of them or what.

Yeah, that's it. They had a team meeting and formed a plan involving a string of carefully timed incidents calculated to lead to arrests. The gig's up now that you have stumbled upon their master plan.

Here is the difference between big time athletes of today vs the big time athletes over the past 30 years...the media.
This has been going on forever, but the media now has knowledge of everything that happens.
The unfortunate, is that big time athletes think they are above the law because they are celebs. How often do you turn on the tv and see a big time Hollywood moron committing a crime "Joe Public" would be put in jail for..but because they are "stars" it's smoothed over.
Until we start holding these men to the same standard as everyone else, nothing will change. All you can do is let them screw themselves over. No one is going to change their behavior, they will have to do it themselves.

I would like to hear more details before I pass judgement. It seems a little odd that the KPD would release a statement saying that all the kid was arrested for yelling and waving his hands. He obviously was not drunk bc they would have got him for public intoxication. If there is nothing more to this story, then I might have to wonder why they did not just tell him to shut up and go home.

Save the disorderly conduct for the Gators, fellas.

Arrested for having a good time? Is Knoxville hiring a bunch of recycled Florida yankees on their police force?
Plasticman writes:
Maybe the KPD should start following Packer, Russo and all the sports personalaties around. I guarantee they could make a few arrests on them too. Oh yea, but that wouldn't make news since their stations would not publicize it!!
scvols writes:
That will teach these football players to not stand in a parking lot, wave your hands, and yell. LOL! I hope he did not get arrested for that. Come on, when I was in college I did dumb things also. Make him run and do community service, then throw him some more raw meat and send him back to the weight room.

I'm yelling now in the Parking lot over this one.. what is this in KNoxville.. do they follow these guys around at night or something?.. lay off cops..

Something is rotten in Denmark. Waving and yelling = getting arrested? More facts may prove me wrong, but based on this, a foul odor exists.
ctownvol writes:
Another one? This has become rather embarassing. WTF is going on with these guys? Can we have just one week without hearing so and so got arrested? I ask for one week because asking for it not to happen at all seems too much to ask for. I guess the 6 am running didn't get their attention.
99gator writes:
my guess is alcohol was involved and he would not cooperate with police. police were probably called by a neighbor who was trying to sleep or that was woken up by this kid. kid was probably at a party or something.
Plasticman writes:
I still say something fishy with this one. How do you get arrested for waving your hands and yelling in a parking lot? I think Urban Meyer's brother is running the Knoxville Police Dept.
pdhuff#552644 writes:
I swear these young men will not let the doldrums get settled in good.
Phil needs to let McNeil teach a class in what to do with your spare time......
nivatne writes:
I not sure who is to blame, but until further notice, can't we just tell these guys to stay inside at least until signing day is over? This has to look bad to recruits. Makes me wonder if ole' Urban is sliding some $$$ at Knoxville's finest...
CoastGuardVol writes:
Why are things not handled at the lowest level possible. I'm not saying let the guys get away with everything, but why does the KNS feel obligated to air the VOLS dirty laundary. Maybe these savy reporters should run with the guys next time. "Loose lips sink ships"... GO VOLS!!!

Question: Who's watching the police?

Waving and yelling got him arrested? Imagine how bad it would have been if he had stomped his foot, too.

It is getting as regular as clock-work - we get some good news (We get Hall), and then we have another idiot step up to take away the joy.
Grow up and get with the program or go home. I am sick of these nit-wits dragging the program down.
nivatne writes:
I agree w/ CoastGuardVol...this story is not even up on Volquest or Scout...I hope this isn't this site's futile attempt to attract attention...can't you guys go 12 more days without posting something negative??? Go cover Urban Meyer's illegal recruiting or Nick Saban's never-ending search for an OC
marc_ash#231781 writes:
KSN staff wanted to break a story...and they took the info from a news website which doesn't make it much more credible.
There WILL be more to this story. To arrest someone for waving arms and yelling isn't even something the Knoxville police are stupid enough to do..they know better.
No judgement passed, but something else will surface. Maybe threats were made, maybe he was under the influence of alcohol. Hell, maybe he was under the influence of drugs which affected his behavior.
Be patient, the rest of the story will come out. But you can bet something wasn't right.

OK, all together now: 1) "The KPD is picking on UT football players", 2) "This happens on every college campus", 3) "Knoxville TV stations are sensationalists", 4) "What's the matter with standing in an apartment parking lot after midnight on a non-school night waving your arms and yelling?" 5) "If the would change the stupid laws, this would not be illegal." 6) "Boys will be boys."
Just wanted to get this all out at once so that you apologists do not have to waste any keystrokes and electrons repeating it over and over!
Now, move on. Be well. (Shhh! Recruiting season ya' know. Don't want any comments on this site negatively impacting recruiting!)

Umm... they've changed their attitude on how they handle Sutters Mill. 12 years ago A football player or anyone outside drinking and making noise wouldn't have even recieved a visit from the police!! Granted when they showed up Parker should have shut his freaking mouth and gone inside!! Okay, How dumb can you possible be??

Looks like Fat Phil really has control of this team. He needs to pack his bags and move to his ranch in the Midwest.
et_vol_fan writes:
It's news anymore. I'm sure there was a lot of stuff the fans didn't hear about in the 70's. With the Internet and 24 sport cable reporting this stuff it's easy to say the program is out of control. I don't have the answer for that. Back then a lot of cops just picked them up and took them home. They told Majors and it was handled "internally". Not the case anymore.
GerryOP writes:
Good Ol' Phil will straighten everything out with a 15 minute session. Hey, it solved the tackling problem last Fall.
Session agenda: "Look, idiots, the next dumd a$$ who gets in trouble with the cops, just pack your $hit and go home. Got it? End of session."
TommyJack writes:
Maybe Phil should LEAD them in that lap.
Phil has a ranch in midwest?

Sad that guys with this much ability continue to make stupid mistakes. If I was blessed with half as much ability as these guys I would take it upon myself to set a good example for the younger players. Sad. Guys keep your freaking mouths shut when cops tell you to. We dont know the whole story, so take it easy on the cops. If somebody was running their mouth to Parker, they need to be locked for their protection. 300+ lbs. is not something I want on me. Once again, guys shut up and look inconspicuous when somebody calls the cops on you.

Fulmer needs to back off the "all of team runs" discipline approach. Deal with the one guilty. Possibly the arresting officers. If he was distrubing the peace he should have left when asked to so do. I am sure some English or History major had the police called on them sometime this year but you don't see the headline "top English major student arrested".
I lived in a large city where the anchor man on the top TV station got drunk and hit someone with his car. All you ever heard was a brief news flash and that as far AS ANYONE IN MANAGEMENT KNEW he had never drank before. No more news on it or the court case, if he even had one. Several months later he was on the air reporting a fight by football players at one of the Universites in that city.
Reporters are all alike, little cowards in school and can't wait to hurt someone with their "pen".
Fulmer just say this act did not hurt anyone and let it go! Then let Parker interview the reporter in an isolated area!!!
utwick writes:
If you choose to be stupid, please do it in private. Don't do things that attract police attention, and if the police are in the area, show respect and follow their directions. With these 3 incidents in the span of 2 weeks, I think that more than a 6am run is in order. Thanks, Anthony, for another distraction that pulls the coaches away from recruiting.

Am I reading this wrong or did the police ask him to leave and he refused? When I was growing up and in college, if the police told you to do something and you refused, you got arrested. Don't blame the cops. It sounds like they gave him a chance to walk. He wasn't arrested for public intoxiation but I would venture to say drinking (and a girl)was involved. Sounds like the off season of a few years ago that led to a losing season. Grow up guys and get ready for Florida next year.
