UT baseball stadium renovations weeks behind plan

A phase one face lift to Lindsey Nelson Stadium hit some recent snags.

Construction continues to progress, but the project is running about a month behind schedule, University of Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton said.

"The project was originally scheduled to be completed between Feb. 15 and March 1," Hamilton said. "But there were some issues with the rerouting of the electrical on the backside of the stadium - between the stadium and the fraternity houses - as it related to shoring up the bank and the construction of the wall of the stadium.

"Long story short, it ended up putting the project behind by about five or six weeks. They've made up a week of that, but the reality is they're still behind four or five weeks."

Phase One involves a new team clubhouse, locker room, weight room and extension of the north grandstand with the addition of 1,000 seats.

"We thought we would be in there by February, but now it looks more like mid-April," UT coach Todd Raleigh said. "It won't impact out opening the season (Feb. 22 at home against Morehead State).

"I was down there today and the clubhouse is starting to take shape. The field is fine."

A donation from Robert Lindsay provided the bulk of the expected $4.5 million cost for phase one.

Hamilton is still holding out hope the improvements will be complete in time for players and fans to reap the benefits later in the spring.

"I'm very hopeful our guys will be able to enjoy that new clubhouse sometime by the end of the season and our fans will be in the new stands," he said. "We're working feverishly to make sure the seats will be available for a late-season run through the SEC season."

It is sad that these are the responses we get to a tennessee baseball article. With the fan support behind the basketball, football, women's basketball, softball, soccer teams can we not get some fans into the stands? I hope Coach Raleigh starts getting fans to come in there, these student athletes deserve to have a great crowd!

kINGPOST owns no one in spite of what he deludes hisself into thinking. I hope he knows that slavery was abolished and therefore he would be engaging in an illegal activity. Changed posting name fools no one. We know who ye be even if you are afraid to put real name in account profile. How many times will ewe change poster names to find happiness? How many times can a poster be dropped from this site for ill-advised comments? How many times will ewe continue to post off article content? This is a baseball article in case ewe didn't know. Post your drivel on the appropriate site sir. Well baseball team like softball girls finding their projects not as high priority as some others apparently. Stil interested to what Coach Raleigh puts on the field for the VOLS.
